Retool
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>aedoran</b></div><div>My favorite is when someone says their team is rebuilding and they trade a good number pick for veteran players. The only way to rebuild is through draft.</div></div>
Detroit and Ottawa gave up 6th and 7th round picks, which have almost no value. The point of the trade is to show that their giving up no value and gaining a draft pick by taking a bad contract because like you stated " The only way to rebuild is through the draft". I don't care if they give up roster player with one year left or a bag of pucks, the whole point is moving JJ & Gudbranson to help clear cap space.

Huge Offseason Retool
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MajesticWalrus</b></div><div>I agree to disagree with that guys comment. Yiu said it yourself, its the players around them that arent showing up so why make it worse by trading kessel for that</div></div>
I like Kessel but he's been terrible since after the All-Star break. It doesn't even look like he wants to play half the time. I feel like at his age, its the best time to cash in on him and get some future assets in return to make up for some that we've lost with some of the terrible trades GMJR has made. Not to mention it clears cap space to add more depth considering were gonna be tight with JJ & Gudbranson buyouts that I have. I also feel like Fiala has a lot of upside and him and Jake can be a solid 1-2 punch on the left side.

Huge Offseason Retool
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mhockey91</b></div><div>certainly not true. pens could remain elite contenders for years via savvy management and GMJR is completely blowing it right now. fire him ASAP before he can screw us over any worse than he already has</div></div>
Exactly, there is still many good pieces. GMJR needs to go, he's going to drive us to the ground like he did with the Canes.

Huge Offseason Retool
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Dotz789</b></div><div>You’re still over cap and need 2 more skaters... Pittsburgh is going to end up in the dumps anyways. Crosby/Malkin’s best days are behind them. The next 10-15 years in that market are doomed. Fans will likely give up on the team. They won the cups.. time to move on and retool for the future. This is why franchises end up in the ****ter because they’re unwilling to part ways with past prime Elite skaters.</div></div>
Can easily move Bjustad and get the 4.1M off the books. McCann takes over has 3 line centre. Crosby/Malkin are still great. Its mostly the players around them who aren't showing up. GMJR making some horrible signings and trades don't help either.

This Team Is Not What It Once Was
Honestly feel like this team is disaster right now. Wouldn't be surprised if we miss out on the playoffs. If thats the case I assume big moves and as well as changes in management will happen this offseason. Can't be wasting Sid,Geno & Letang best years like this.

Legit Leafs Moves
Canes decline. Either Nylander or Kappy for one of their RHD. Marner is getting 10M+ as well.

DET Trade Deadline
Like the trade as we get a winger and depth dman in one trade. Definitely need to either trade JJ or bench him. Also try to sell Pearson, he's not need with the way he's been performing.

Building Bridges
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Juice</b></div><div>Marner is both smart and confident. I'm not saying he'd take this deal...but certainly can't agree there's 'no way'. If he simply stays at his current level of production...in 3 years he knows he'll earn himself a contract richer than what Matthews is making. Hell...he might be better off taking a 1yr extension and seeing where the cap goes again next year + enjoy some of Marleau's expiring contract for himself.
4 years is probably the only term the leafs will absolutely not accept.</div></div>
true, but the way he's playing now I'm sure he would want his pay day after this season. He can sign a 1-2 year bridge deal and then fall off and miss out on his big pay day. He could even get hurt and be screwed. Im sure he wants something long term or even a 5 year contract at around 10-10.5

This would be the highest bridge AAV ever ...</div></div>
Im sure he either wants long term (8 years) or to his first UFA year. Either way he wants Matthews money and he's not going to take 3 million less. His agent already came out saying that he won't be taking no discount. Best bet is 88 Million for 8 years and fine takers for Nylander and Zaitsev ( if even possible) in the offseason.

agree, but moving Pearson is something we should look at doing soon. Also don't mind moving Jarry as we have Murray and DeSmith signed up for next season and he probably doesn't make the jump to the NHL with us. Like Ferland game with his size & grit and he can easily be a 20 goal scorer.

how? when a contract is placed on LTIR is doesn't count towards your cap. Your also allowed to go 15% over the cap during the offseason.

REALISTIC As Possible
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PuckPal</b></div><div>I don't get where people think Marner is going to get almost 2 million more than Kutcharov got? His max he could see is 9.5 but realistically seeing Kutcharov is a more proven player he will at max see 9 million. Cause if they need to goto 11 to resign him to 5 making him the highest paid winger in the NHL they might as well sign him to 8 cause not only is that not a discount like matthews just signed it overpaid by 2 million.</div></div>
Maybe because he has more point then Matthews and Tavares so he deserves to be paid like them? not to mention Tampa is tax free so Kuch gets 9.5M clean, making it easier for tampa to sign him for that much.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>toque</b></div><div>Z trade makes no sense. Detroit has no issues paying Zetterberg's contract while on LTIR (or at least the part that isn't covered by insurance), and you're basically asking them to take on a cap dump for nothing.
Wings will happily put him on LTIR and give themselves 6 million in cap space.</div></div>
Yup. makes 0 sense for Detorit
