I think if that's what's coming in, the Pens get away with not giving up the 2nd round pick.

Also, I don't think Anaheim would trade Ritchie since they just signed him for 3 years

I think the 2nd makes it close to even with it being Maatta + Angello for Montour & Sprong + 2nd for Ritchie + 4th (or whatever way you want to look at it). Also, they signed him to a 3 year deal but he held out for a while which could have caused some bad blood, so they could have been thinking a sign & trade.

So you wanna send castoffs and a 2nd to the ducks for Montour? Not happening.

Castoffs? Please elaborate on that intelligent reply.

We haven't reached desperation yet, so I don't think we're trading Montour until the season is beyond redemption (i.e., if we aren't in a playoff position by the trade deadline). That being said, your trade isn't fair value because Maata isn't his equal and Montour is a top-4 defenseman and, to my knowledge, the other two players aren't top-6 forwards. However, when you're a top-10 draft pick and you haven't fulfilled elevated expectations by your third year and then you hold out past training camp, you haven't endeared yourself to management so yes, Ritchie might be available, especially since the Ducks seem to need a wake-up shake-up. You'd have to tell me more about Sprong and Angello to allow me to intelligently opine about that aspect of a deal.

I appreciate the detailed response with intelligence behind it. I would say Maatta + Angello (or a better prospect) would be fair value for Montour but like you said, they may not be ready to call it in just yet. I am basically going off rumours and seeing if I can make something of it myself.

Then let me help you out, as a Ducks fan. I apologize if you know all of this already.

Anaheim has two top-flight centers on NMC's and a third whom they just signed long-term. The Ducks have auditioned 6 rookie forwards (Comtois, Lundestrom, Steel, Sherwood, Kossila and Carrick -- listed in the order I think they're likely to make the team next year) and now 4 rookie defensemen (Larsson, Pettersson and Mahura on the left and Welinksi on the right), so I don't think that any of them is likely to be moved before getting a full evaluation of everyone. In addition, Aberg and Kase appear to be top-6 material in the immediate future. Perry (hard NMC) and Eaves (poor medical history) have little or no trade value. Rakell and the top 4 defensemen are untouchable barring a blockbuster offer. That effectively leaves Silfverberg, Cogliano and Ritchie. I know the Ducks would love to re-sign Silfverberg, because he's fast and their best two-way forward younger than Kesler. Cogliano never misses a game and is an excellent penalty killer; he's a third-line wing playing on the second line due to his chemistry with Kesler and Silfverberg. So that kinda leaves Ritchie and some unusual thoughts about Fowler and Manson (because I can't see the Ducks moving Lindholm or Montour.)
