<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HulkVader</b></div><div>Lol, the top six will not start that way as Guentzel will miss the first two or three weeks of the season, at least. Your fourth line will be the third line, with Nieto in over Johnsson. There’s a zero percent chance O’Connor-Pitlick-Nylander is their third line. Zero. You don’t even have Nieto in the lineup and he’s a lock to play ahead of Pitlick, Nylander, and Johnsson.
As far as the D, it’s just as likely Graves-Letang and Petts-Karlsson, if not better. Letang and Petts know the system very well, better to pair one with each of the new guys. Graves & Karlsson are not rookies, but it serves to have them paired with a partner to whom the system is second nature. So, yeah, there’s a lot wrong with your lineup.
Edit: forgot to mention Hinostroza, who will likely make the team ahead of Pitlick and Nylander, as well. If their forward group is ever healthy, Pitlick & Nylander will probably be on the waiver wire & headed to WB/S.</div></div>
I agree with most of what you're saying but with Guentzel's contract not on LTIR, they cannot have Nieto ahead of Johnsson because it will put them over the cap. I think Pettersson and Tanger play together, but I guess we will see. Either way, this roster is drastically better than last weeks.

Pens Sharks Hawks
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pavelski_tip_in</b></div><div>The contract was miserable for years 1-3, but feels extremely palatable now for the Sharks. Karlsson puts butts in the seats and keeps fans interested. He won't have the same season as last year because he has fewer weapons to work with, but under Quinn he will likely have a season resembling the last. Given how they've deployed him he shouldn't revert to the production from the Boughner era. The Sharks current load management plan also seems to be helping him to avoid injuries.
I don't think it's smart to offload Karlsson for a weak package because 1) the Sharks proved they can lose with him 2) the cap space isn't as valuable to them (they already have enough of it) 3) the cap will jump next season so more teams can afford him.</div></div>
I would love to know why Sharks fans think this contract is good for them? Yes, they have a lot of cap space, but that is because they are rebuilding. How is EK good for a rebuilding team? His value will likely never be higher. Even if the cap goes up next year, EK will be older and likely worse than he was this year, and still with 3 years left at 11.5.

How do the Hawks "easily decline"? They get the much better player in the trade, and a 4th rounder for the additional AAV. Zaitsev has zero value.

Pens Sharks Hawks
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>RecycleShark</b></div><div>Sharks should still accept for the picks and longterm cap relief. Zaitzev is a better cap dump option for the Sharks to take on than Granlund or Petry, since he makes less and has 1 year left instead of 2. Not sure the point in including Zaitsev in the trade at all. So Pittsburgh pays less to trade Petry? To get Chicago under 24 roster players?</div></div>
The reason PIT got Zaitsev was because Petry won't waive his NMC to go to SJ, so CHI accepts Petry and a 4th for Zaitsev and PIT moves him as part of the Karlsson trade. Lower cap hit, only 1 year left, so it is much better for SJ.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>I still dont know if thats enough for EK.
Poulin, who I love, has meh value right now through his issues, and only has 1 yr left
Blomqvist has played just 2 games in the AHL over 2 seasons, and he let in 4 goals in his single 22-23 game
Ty Smith barely got a look last yr in PIT and isn;t good defensively, (even PIT only gave him a 1 yr deal)
Cap dump Zaitsev
A probable mid to (hopefully for PIT fans) late round 1st and a 2nd TWO drafts away.
Its alot of somewhat broken toys and a couple of good, not great picks for EK and 4 million retained for FOUR years.</div></div>
People have to understand that the EK contract is absolutely miserable. If SJ wants to move him at his highest point, they will need to play ball, or they hold on to him and risk losing him for much less down the road.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pensfan21</b></div><div>We're losing POJ and Rutta and adding Erik Karlsson. That's as big of an upgrade as you can get. And the bottom 6 is not good right now in terms of offensive production. We definitely need more help there.</div></div>
How is the bottom 6 a disaster when the majority haven't had a full time role on this team yet? We added Eller, Acciari, Johnsson, Nylander (hopefully full time), Nieto, Hinostroza, etc. I think it is improved and will be shut down lines. I like Rutta as a bottom pair RD, and I think it is a mistake to move on from POJ.

As a Pens fan, I don't like this. I don't think we need anymore bottom 6 forwards, and moving POJ and Rutta absolutely depletes the defensive core.

try this
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Victor24</b></div><div>Why isn't it Chi?
If Petry was on Chi last year his stats (5v5, defenseman) would be:
Hits: 1st on Chi
Shots blocked: 3rd
*Points per 60: 1st
Shots per 60: 2nd
*Corsi: 1st
Created xgoals: 2nd
Shooting talent above average: 2nd
Stats with an * are also affected by team play
Based on his stats, he would be the 1st / 2nd best defenseman on Chi and a great PP QB for Bedard.
Even to Chi, he is not a cap dump.</div></div>
Petry is a cap dump regardless of anything you stated above. He has a limited no trade clause, and everyone in the NHL knows that the Penguins have to move him out in order to get Karlsson, therefore they have zero leverage. He is the cap dump here.

Karlsson Idea based on Rob Rossi insider - PIT
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Capitalfail67</b></div><div>So Sharks take / have $10 million in useless cap space.... then they move a Norris 100p caliber player while there at it?
Ek 7.5m is worth at least a 1st + high end prospect. Poulin / Smith are far from high end... mid level at best?
EK 7.5m should look like 1st + Pickering.
dumping Petry should cost a 1st minimum ? Bailey 5mx1yr cost a 2nd. (Petry higher cap hit w more term) Maybe a 2nd + those prospects gets it done but id personally rather just have the 1st
imo Penguins need to add a little more</div></div>
I don't think it's a bad return. I don't care that he won the Norris, he wants out, and Sharks have very little leverage. Also, they didn't dump Petry, the Sharks flipped him to CBJ as part of another deal.

The year previous to 2024-2025 is 2023-2024, which means that San Jose would be paying for 4 years of retention.
Thinking is hard -- apparently, VERY hard for you.</div></div>
It has to do with you thinking I traded Petry for Karlsson. I have no idea what you are even talking about anymore. Regroup and send me back your thoughts in an organized way, or stick to Islanders posts.

New Idea - Pens - Next Year
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>OldNYIfan</b></div><div>You think that San Jose, who after all are a small-market team (smaller than the Pittsburgh metropolitan area), are going to pay $18.4 million for Erik Karlsson NOT to play for them?!?!?
He's worth more than Jeff Petry, by the way.</div></div>
This post is for the next year AFTER the original trade was made. Reading is hard!
Also, SJ has very little leverage at this point, so unless they want to hold him, and let his value diminish, then a 1st + + + seems okay right about now.

Only problem with sending Friedman down is that he will need to go through waivers, and I have a feeling he would get snagged. I think he is a very useful 6/7.
