Marleau has NMC, so he ain't moving. So Marleau is a one year cap dump, doesn't mean the Leafs want to take on Weber for 8 year, which is a long term cap dump. Nylander at 8m is too pricey for any team.

I don't think the Leafs would have any interest in Weber. Dubas has put a premium on skating with the blue line. Weber is not at all a good skater.

I think every team has an interest in Shea Weber, just not for 7 more years.
To be fair, Shea Weber doesn't need to skate fast. He's there to destroy pucks in their end and players in yours.

It would look awful for such a historic franchise to name a captain and then trade him so quickly. They just lost a captain and Weber is still on the IR, there is absolutely no way the Canadians move Weber.

That is hard to do when you are about 4 steps behind every play because you have literally zero speed anymore. Weber is slow and he's declining and all you fans who think he's still an elite defenceman are in for a rude awakening.

I'm not saying he's the greatest in the league, but he's not written off just yet. The man needed knee surgery after last season so let's keep that in mind. He should be better this year than last.
If he had 2-3 years left on his deal, teams would be lining up with offers.

Maybe if Montreal would retain half his salary. He's a 3 million dollar player at this stage in his career.

He's a solid skater but not fast. Is that some sort of riddle?

there is a difference between good skating and being fast at skating. edges, turns, all those things matter in being a good skater.

Weber isn't nimble or fast. He isn't a good skater.

Stop living in 2014, that was years ago and he's been aggressively declining since then. If he was so amazing why was he traded for Subban in what everyone outside of Montreal calls one of the worst trades of this era. (Nothing beats Hall for Larrson but this one was bad as well)?

The Leafs rarely trade with the Habs to begin with. Weber was a great D-man 5yrs ago, his contract is an albatross that is worse then Seabrook. Hard pass by the Leafs.

I'm still looking to find a TML defense in this ranking... OH, Petry at #23, a Weber healthy, in my mind, is better than Petry.... wink

He'll never be in the top 40 again. Petry had a great year and is a good player. Rielly was 21st this year, if I remember correctly. A key stat if we are comparing the best of TO with the best of Montreal. Rielly is 24, Weber is 35 and Petry is 31. One of these players is yet to play his best hockey while 2 have already played their best hockey. Hint, the Habs guys aren't getting better, or younger.

For sure... and with Hainsey and Zaitsev as #1 and #2 as RHD, the cup is out of Toronto for many years...

Weber is older, right!! But with Rielly, he'll be in your top2 at defense, no question about that!! Toronto has a great young and offense team, but remember the playoff, OH, right, Jake Gardiner!!! Toronto will NEVER go for a long ride in playoff if they don't add a solid defense player. And as TML fan, stop to think that you can get a #1 defense, a 1st pick and the moon... Nylander is a very good player but you DON'T get the moon for him dear TML fan!!

Random internet dude. "I think Weber is declining and with his terrible contract, no one should have any interest, especially TO who put a premium on speed. Which Weber has none of."

Habs fans. "TORONTO's DEFENSE IS THE WORST! THEY'LL NEVER WIN THE CUP" More shouting follows and ends with the sound of breaking glass and other insanity.

Random internet dude. "I just don't think Weber is good, not sure why this guy went all nuts about TO."

I'm the internet dude.

This isn't about Toronto, its about Weber. He was once a great player but he's a falling off a cliff. His game is outdated and doesn't translate to the speed of the new NHL.
