Do you honestly think that TO won't have a similar deal on the table that pays him 11-12 million for 8 years? If they don't, do you honestly think the Leafs wouldn't match that.

I'd assume Toronto would match that in a heartbeat. He's there franchise player, they'll trade Nylander or someone else just to keep Matthews if they have to. And they're probably expecting to pay him that much anyways. Maybe, just maybe, if you offered him the league max (north of 15 million) Toronto wouldn't match

anything south of 13.5- 14million they are matching.....they might even match those offers

Gee, two mill short at the cap and roster of 20....Looks like Rangers have more cap problems than the Leafs.

i mean this is just for fun and it won't happen, but by the time the rangers have any major RFA contracts up they'd be free of girardi's buyout, lundqvists salary, smiths contract, staals buyout, callahans buyout, plus the normal 4-5% a year the cap goes up. without the cap going up within 2 years they'd have 22 million in free space (given they have to sign buch, chytil, howden, andersson, sheshterkin and foote at that point)
