habs trade is very interesting, but i think ur offering too much unless that deals made at the tdl. scherbak has potential, but mccarron is a ahler. petry is a good 3-4 d and will help the devils a lot. maybe add a 2nd rd pick and drop the 1st

Well, the way I saw it -> Butcher gets you Nylander... which would be deadly paired with Hall, And I brought Petry to compensate for the loss of Butcher (they both got 42pts last year).

-> Habs are rebuilding, so Ty Smith is 2-3 years from the show anyway! and Petry is a NOW fix.

I can tell you're a Habs fan just by this trade. That's a horrible deal for the Devils to make. Petry is a nice #3 defenseman, but that's all he is. Scherbak and McCarron are both essentially write offs at this point (Scherbak still has some hope), but there's not a lot of value going that way. But you're asking for their top prospect, along with their first round pick this year? FOH

Not going to address the rest, but Smith almost made the team this year. He's not 2-3 years away, he was on the cusp this year. He is incredibly likely to make the team and be a key component to the D core next season. Shero isn't moving him, especially not for anything short of a #1 defenseman

The habs trade is laughable. Smith is the Devils' top prospect, it would take a hell of a lot more than that to pry him away.

And the problem with the Nylander trade is the Leafs have no money and Butcher's contract is up this year. He had 45 pts as a rookie D man last year. If he does similar this year, he's not going to be making much less than Nylander. The Leafs will probably have to settle for draft picks and cost controlled players with term left. Santini and a first would be more realistic.
