Dal - Tor

Description
I don't know if the lines are correct to be honest...
The idea is, that Toronto gets rid of 1.3M for Carrick. Radulov costs you 1M (or something like that) less than Nylander. That makes the Re-signing of Matthews and Marner a bit easier.

Doesn’t really make sense for Toronto. Yeah Radulov has a cheaper contract but he’s a lot older than Nylander + it doesn’t really fix Toronto’s hole on defense. Value is there tho

Yeah i know. It's difficult but worth a discussion. And Dallas is tough with Heiskanen. If they really wanted Karlsson, he would be in Dallas and Heiskanen in Ottawa.

It looks like he won't resign at 6.5M. He wants something like Draisaitl has and nothing like Pastrnak. Nylander doesn't want to see resigning Marner at ~9M next year, while he takes 6.5M.

    Value is there though?

Nylander is the best player in the deal and is 22 years old.

Radulov is TEN YEARS OLDER!!!!! There is zero value in this trade for TO.

"That makes the Re-signing of Matthews and Marner a bit easier." I'll disagree with that statement. So you are telling future Leaf RFAs, don't sign with the Leafs, cause you will get traded and can get a few dollars more.
It's for the the reason I just gave, IMO, there is no way the Leafs can trade Nylander. He's just going to have to go through the process of being a RFA in this league. So what if he wants 8m, he can flex his leverage when he is a UFA. Gee, why would it bother Nylander what Marner makes? If it really bothers Nylander just sign a one year deal and then next year he can compare himself to Marner.

Thank you for your opinion. I just think with the big Tavares contract and the Matthews/Marner contracts in the next year, the Leafs have a problem. To me it seems like Marner and Matthews have a higher priority than Nylander for Toronto. I mean, i tried something with Radulov here... But getting a good, young D (like Heiskanen, Sergachev, McAvoy to name a few) would really help the Leafs. They have the "Big 4" (Tavares, Matthews, Marner, Nylander) in their offence, giving away one of them for a D seems legit. I used Radulov because he is a RW and Heiskanen seems untouchable for Dallas, and I saw a little coincidence with the Carrick deal...

Thanks for seeing my point. I don't disagree with your thought about the Leafs getting a good player back with a lesser cap as being a good option for the Leafs. But as I indicated, I think there is something more important, and that is not to give up unreasonable contracts to RFAs. (at least in the minds of Leafs management). I'm not sure if other teams really want to overpay for salary for Nylander as parachuted RFA, after all other GMS have upcoming RFAs to sign. I betcha most GMs agree with the Leafs an there approach with Nylander. Not that it isn't Nylander's to not sign any contract he doesn't like. Looking at long term comparables, 6.5m seems about right. If Nylander wants more, he just might have to sign a cheaper short term contract and then hope for a greater payday in a few years.

Yeah I really get your point. I mean, in my opinion Nylander=Pastrnak. They have the same value and need the same contracts. ~6.5M. But in the last years I saw some overpayment contracts from "bad" franchises. I look at (and maybe Nylander as well) the Draisaitl contract (8.5M) in Edmonton. Ok he is a Center, but in my opinion he has the same value as Pastrnak/Nylander. Maybe Nylander demands something like that?!

Radulov just came off a 70 point season. More than Nylander. Imagine what he’d put up with Tavares. Radulov is better atm but not for too much longer. Move makes sense if Toronto is trying to win now but they got about 10+ years to win it all. No need for the trade. Better off trading him for some defense. Marleau and Ennis can play with Matthews, Hyman and Marner can play with Tavares and that’s still with Kadri on 3rd line with depth guys like Kapanen, Brown, and Johnsson

An age gap of 5 years makes a deal hard for me to accept, 10 years is insanity. Players over 30 are a risk, every year you see a guy who was great all of a sudden just fall apart. The further past 30 the greater the risk. Corey Perry is a very good example of this, looked great until he was 31 or 32 and then all of a sudden it was whoa, he looks really slow. So I don't care if someone offered me Ovie for Nylander, I wouldn't trade a super talented 22 year old for anyone over 30. It'll look good for potentially zero percent of the rest of the players careers.

That’s why I’m saying it doesn’t make sense for TOR. Age cap is too wide when Toronto has a 10 year window for the cup. If they’re going to move Nylander, it should be for defense

Which again will be almost impossible to do. The current market value for a right handed potential top pairing defenceman is way too high! It would cost Nylander plus for a guy who could maybe handle top pair minutes someday or it'll cost the same for a 27-28 year old who is the second pairing on his team but could maybe handle bigger minutes. Either scenario, Toronto weakens itself up front to maybe make a slight improvement on the back end. Patience is the key here.

I think they could move him for a guy like Faulk. I’m sure there’s other options out there too

Faulk is 27 and is not good in his own zone. That is a lateral movement at best but I would put Nylander a hell of a lot more valuable than Faulk.
