I think that Ottawa will want a first rounder back at least.

Switch C.Jones by E.Bear and switch the '20 3rd & 6th round pick for a '19 1st round pick and it will resemble something like a fair deal.

*Since you're trading dead meat in Sekera, you have to add more so the other team accepts.

EK65 for E.Bear + J.Puljujarvi + A.Sekera + EDM 2019 1st & 2nd round pick.

Sekera is not "dead meat". He's a productive top-4 veteran defenseman who can be depended on to score 30+ points per season. Last season doesn't look good because he was injured and coming off major surgery. He's back to 100% and can be expected to play at 2015-16 / 2016-17 levels. So, if Ottawa needs a 1st (they'll push for one for sure) then the D prospect (Jones / Bear) comes out of the deal at a minimum, maybe the 2nd too.

Also, Edmonton only does this trade if Karlsson has an extension that they can live with, and in all likelyhood they won't have the cap room to fit an $11M 29-year-old playing on one foot for the next 8 years, so the rest is moot.

A d-man who scored 61pts with the second to last team in the NHL (26th in goals per game) playing only on "one foot" is pretty damn impressive, right?! One of the two best D-man in the world over the past 7 seasons being traded for great assets is a surprise to you? No team will pay the real value of the player, that's for sure, but OTT won't trade him for next to nothing either. The discussion STARTS at a young establish player (F or D) + an A1 prospect + a 1st round pick +. Then, it's some fine tuning

So why is Sekera in there?? He isn't any of the things you mentioned.

And Oilers are looking for players who can fit into the McDavid cluster, Karlsson doesn't fit. If he's not in decline now he will be very soon. He just doesn't make sense on the Oilers roster.

I didn't make the proposition, I gave my opinion on it. If you analyse the situation just a little bit, which you clearly haven't done yet, it's a situation where money needs to leave in order to fit the receiving players under the cap.

And you are DEFINITELY the first and ONLY person to say that Erik Karlsson doesn't fit on an Edmonton Oilers roster...lol I don't know what else to do then laugh at that statement...I mean, who is if he isn't?!? Total non-sense

I'm not fond of repeating myself, so go back and read what I wrote above and you'll see why Karlsson doesn't fit on the Oilers roster. Also, take a look at their cap situation.

Sekara has a NMC/NTC he is not waiving to go to OTT, either Nurse of Klefbom going back.
