LET'S TRY SOMETHING! WHAT WOULD IT TAKE FOR OILERS TO TRADE AWAY C.McDAVID??

Description
Ok so i know it won't happen anytime soon, but let's have fun and speculate to what everyone think it should take to make EDM part ways with McDavid RIGHT NOW (not in 6-7 years).

I'm going to propose 3 scenarios, so you'll see 2 McDavid being created just in the purpose of those scenarios. Don't mention to me that there's too many players on my roster or that I'm above salary cap (it's not the purpose of this thread). Also, feel free to insult me and ridicule me on the scenarios, since that's basically what everyone is doing in here..OR just write what you think the deal should include and let's amicably debate for fun! ?

Note that I would probably do the TBL & CAR trade but not the NSH (all from the opposing GM perspective, that is).

Low key from an oilers POV i think I might do both of those too lol. The assets you could get in return for McDavid could make you a really good team for years. You don't have that generational roster player which sucks but a trade involving him improves the overall team itself which is what really matters for playoff success in the nhl.

Totally agree. I mean, we ARE talking about the best "young" player in the world here (still think Crosby is a more complete player and still the best in the world for a year or two)...but I don't think NSH would really improve their team by doing this trade, that's why I'm with you on this one.

Still, that would surely be what's asked from EDM's POV, right?

Yes, definitely! It gives you the opportunity to improve in every aspect your team needs improving 'cause there's litterally nothing you CAN'T ask from a team. Top line winger or center, top 2 d-man, top goalie, A+ prospect (s), etc.

when you trying to trade Mcdavid who will be the best player in the world you need to get a more then sufficient return as a GM or else ur not gunna have a job. i think they would have to sub forsberg for arvidson or take out a first rounder. the other 2 deals are spot on in value and could see those happening if Mcdavid requests a trade for some reason.

I agree with most of the others that the Nashville one isnt good, but the other 2 make sense. Maybe if u changed up the trade and included RyJo in it, but I like the Necas and Point parts, gettin a cheap (for this year) top 6 C. I also like the value on both of them. My only issue is Tampa would need it to be Stammer instead of Point because their salary cap, butthe Carolina one could work.
I like this idea u had too. Gettin together to disucss this.

Yeah, my idea was to establish a value or a consensus value of what would it take (all cap issues aside). And EDM would want Point way more than Stamkos considering the age, contract and peak level still to come for Point where it'll be declining in 2-3 years for Stammer, imho.

They would want to keep Forsberg in the deal though. But I could see a first round pick being switch for a second round pick. Would that be enough of a tweak? Taking one of the first completely out seems too much, doesn't it?

Very true...but you can't empty your team just for one player either. That's what's hard about this idea

if theres no one to play around mcdavid it doesnt matter if you have mcdavid look at edmonton now. they still have some good players and cant make the playoffs. the only reason this seems like an over pay is because tolvanen is going to be gross. forsberg you know what your getting same with ellis. tolvanen is the question mark that makes this a gamble. plus 2 first not many good players coming in after as well.

Instead of asking for all those futures, could you build a win now roster from Nashville, maybe Johansen, Ellis and Forsberg for McDavid and Puljujarvi then fill in draft picks/prospects where needed?

He's still not as complete as Crosby, so technically the "2nd" best right now ? but that's not the point. I'm not sold on that "getting the best player makes you win a trade" thing. EDM have a great offense and they wouldn't be weakening it that much by doing this trade (considering what they'd be getting in return). Their biggest needs is defense and building up that prospect pool. By trading him, they would land a top line winger, a top 2-3 d-man, an A+ prospect or 2 (probably 2) AND 2 first round pick while still having a true #1 centerman in Draisaitl to take on the mantle of 1C.

I understand that it's not ideal nor really desirable to do that (remember, we're just spit balling here), but isn't getting a more deeper well balanced team something to at least think about? You should not be looking at this only on the side of what you are giving up...everyone knows anybody can be traded, it depends on the return. If that return makes the Oilers a deeper team without a glaring whole on the back end while still being very strong on offense and gets you a great chance at getting great prospects at the draft, WHY NOT consider it?

Having a player who scores 100+pts who wins lots of awards isn't a garanty of success, you know? Just look at the '17-'18 Oilers...
