You had me at something like and then you lost me. Tavares is a no go and Nylander is an elite offensive prospect under the age of 21, you just don't trade that. TAYLOR HALL!!!!!!! End of my arguement. Nylander could be a 70-80 point guy or a 60 point 3rd line centre. Get Pesce a different way. You are right on adding Martin, it doesn't help the trade.
My trading of Nylander was more cap reasons. Don't know if he Leafs can afford Tavares and the big three long term. Nylander and lets a UFA Ryan Ellis (next year) might cost close to 13,5m. Tavares and Pesce 14.7. But I agree with you, Tavares is probably a no go anyway. You and I agree that Nylander is an elite talent and has more to show. IMO, Nylander should be playing centre this year. Matthews, Kadri and Nylander at centre....that looks really good and the Leafs have enough good wingers to make Nylander's centre move possible. Should be a well balanced high scoring three lines Nylander can still have lots PP time with Matthews.
Just an insight of what I think the balanced lines could look like next year. Grundstrom. Matthews, Marner. Marleau, Kadri, Kapanen. Johnson. Nylander, Hyman. Martin/Leivo, Aaltoen, Brown.
Combination of speed, scoring and a "digger" per line (well the first three lines). Think Grunstrom can take over the Hyman role with Matthews, and Grundstrom might have better scoring touch than Hyman.
Long term 2019/20, I think the Leafs might have a very competent defence (despite the panic shown by many Leaf fans).....Reilly, Dermot, Borgman, Zaitsev, Liljegren. I know there some "ifs there, but there some young guys who I see have growth potential. Thanks for reading this....if you got this far
