2018-19 Realistic, and I mean realistic not super fan realistic

Équipe: 2018-19 Maple Leafs de Toronto

Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
I do feel more moves could be made and the trade for Pesce could be replaced with something similar to the Jets for Myers or the Canucks (A bit less going to Vancouver) for Tanev. I don't see the Leafs going after big name guys like Carlsson or Doughty. Tavares is only an option if he wants to come to TO and is willing to take less than a max deal and maybe less term.

I can also see TO possibly making a trade with either Edmonton or maybe Montreal, sending Gardiner for a futures return (prospects and or picks) Gardiner is expendable, especially if one of Ozhiganov or Holl can make the jump and take over the 3rd pairing right winger. That would allow Hainsey to move to the left Dermott up to the 2nd pairing.

You had me at realistic until I saw the trade. Pesce is going to cost you substantially more than a late 1st, a cap dump, an AHL goalie and an AHL D man.

Pesce is good NHL Dman with a long term nice contract. He'll get a lot more in a trade. Martin and a backup AHL goalie have no trade value.
Now, the way to acquire Pesce is something like this.....sign Tavares and then trade Nylander and more for Pesce. Solves the centre and RHD problem. Easier said then done though.

You had me at something like and then you lost me. Tavares is a no go and Nylander is an elite offensive prospect under the age of 21, you just don't trade that. TAYLOR HALL!!!!!!! End of my arguement. Nylander could be a 70-80 point guy or a 60 point 3rd line centre. Get Pesce a different way. You are right on adding Martin, it doesn't help the trade.

You are right, perhaps take Martin off and instead offer up Bracco or someone else. No roster players though unless they want Gardiner or Leivo. The leafs are losing enough forwards this off season already, keep the roster similar and just add a right shot top 4 D. That's my hope. If you can't add a RD for a reasonable rate, then you just hold pat and wait for guys to develop.

I wouldn't get broken up over that, but I like keeping a hard working local boy that can pitch in with some timely offence and play up and down the lineup. That is definitely me being a homer though, Brown and a 1st for Pesce is a fair deal.

My trading of Nylander was more cap reasons. Don't know if he Leafs can afford Tavares and the big three long term. Nylander and lets a UFA Ryan Ellis (next year) might cost close to 13,5m. Tavares and Pesce 14.7. But I agree with you, Tavares is probably a no go anyway. You and I agree that Nylander is an elite talent and has more to show. IMO, Nylander should be playing centre this year. Matthews, Kadri and Nylander at centre....that looks really good and the Leafs have enough good wingers to make Nylander's centre move possible. Should be a well balanced high scoring three lines Nylander can still have lots PP time with Matthews.

Just an insight of what I think the balanced lines could look like next year. Grundstrom. Matthews, Marner. Marleau, Kadri, Kapanen. Johnson. Nylander, Hyman. Martin/Leivo, Aaltoen, Brown.
Combination of speed, scoring and a "digger" per line (well the first three lines). Think Grunstrom can take over the Hyman role with Matthews, and Grundstrom might have better scoring touch than Hyman.

Long term 2019/20, I think the Leafs might have a very competent defence (despite the panic shown by many Leaf fans).....Reilly, Dermot, Borgman, Zaitsev, Liljegren. I know there some "ifs there, but there some young guys who I see have growth potential. Thanks for reading this....if you got this farsmile
