Description
If you have no interest in Hutton then sub in Del Zotto (I heard Chi-town had interest in him this year) (also he would be at 50% retained salary).

Disregard Nilsson's numbers from this year and look at what he is doing with an actual defence in front of him at the world championship. I would hardly call Hutton a "spare part". But rather than shut it down, try and make your case with a reasonable counter offer.

Chicago has Crawford and with their top heavy lineup will not trade a first for hutton

I don't know if you noticed but with Crawford hurt Chicago was in desperate need of a capable back up goalie. This is still the case and Nilsson is a more than capable back up goalie who can play 25 games or so.

I'm sure he is playing well at the Worlds, but i think his career numbers in the NHL paint a truer picture. He's a journeyman backup with one good season on record, maybe he can get you a 4th, maybe less. And I like Ben Hutton a whole lot, he's a hometown guy and I want him to succeed but he is a 6-7 Dman who doesn't do anything particularly well. maybe is someone wants to take a flyer on him you can swap stuggling young players, maybe a Curtis Lazar or something? I personally would just stay away from him all together though.

On the other hand, a good showing at one WC doesn't make a case for him being worth a first round pick, not to mention that pick being 8th OA. That's such a small sample size to base giving away a top-10 pick for that I don't think Chicago, a team that is starting to feel the effects of some of their aging players, would give it away just like that. I'm thinking they land Smith or Bouchard to bolster their upcoming defense corps, and either of those players at 18 years old and a max $950k ELC (who can be developed within the Hawks' own system from the start) will be more beneficial than a 25 year old Hutton making a reduced $1.4M for one year.

Ben Hutton is a spare part, if he wasn't you wouldn't suggest trading him.

Just because Nilsson played with an all star team at Worlds doesn't mean he's any good/consistent at the NHL level.Easy pass from Chicago.

Hutton is a better option than MDZ due to age but he's not really worth a 1st, even a late one. And Nilsson definitely isn't. Nilsson is only good on the big ice imo. He's been terrible in the NHL and AHL, but good internationally. He certainly would not have been an anymore helpful this past season when Crawford went down and the Hawks would be in a better position having a younger goalie in there developing anyway. On top of that, Nilsson's rights used to belong to Chicago and they passed on him a while ago.
