Most teams have a small list of guys for whom basically the answer to any trade proposal for them is effectively always "no, absolutely not". Core guys that the team is building around and absolutely will not trade unless truly bizarre circumstances occur. You have asked for TWO of those guys from the Jackets for ONE player who we do not want and could not afford to keep, and insisted on us paying additional picks for the privilege. You could be offering McDavid and we would turn that down - but you don't have a McDavid to offer. In point of fact, there is literally nothing the Ottawa Senators have that could get you either of Werenski or Dubois, let alone both together, let alone with adds of any kind, let alone with our 1st thrown in. Nothing, and that expressly includes Karlsson because we will not have the space available to keep him.

This trade is horrific, and you should be deeply ashamed for having ever thought it had any chance at all.

EDIT: Oh, and the Ceci-for-Aho trade is almost as bad for the Canes.

What do you think the blue jackets need or are looking to add?

I agree that these trades aren’t the greatest.... but for real Dubois or werenski aren’t worth trading for Mcdavid?? That’s some crazy talk imo.

Your team is beating a contender right now. Don't be such a tool.

Top-6 center depth. Right now it's just Dubois and Wennberg, and while Foligno is capable as a stand-in he really ought to be an emergency option only.

That was an "and", not an "or". Two core players we're building around and our 1st for one guy. (EDIT: And obviously the Oilers aren't about to give him up anytime soon for that or anything else.)

And yet it and its players are still being grossly disrespected and dismissed by this kind of nonsense. The narrative hasn't been "the Jackets are actually good", it's been "lol washington choking again". So that doesn't exactly work as a reprimand.

We'll split the difference?

How about: Washington intelligently tried to rest Holtby for PIttsburgh and showcase Grubauer for a blockbuster trade, by pitting their backup against streaky Bob, and it backfired hugely when good Bob showed up, Vanek brought his A game, and Dubois and Wennberg continued to play like legit top six centers on a decent NHL team, which they are. Now Holtby is under more pressure than ever, after coming into a series against a hungry, good, young, quick team needing to win four games before he gives up two.

Could go either way, and it should be a good series, but either winner is going to show up exhausted for the unofficial finals.
