One of the few teams who ACTUALLY has a good chance at Tavares

Description
By keeping E.Kane and getting J.Tavares, you get a very solid top 9 and you can compete for another 4-5 years in the West. Next year will be a bit tricky with all the signings that'll need to be done, but it's doable. Those move could make this team a Pacific division winner next year.

Certainly a good idea but you’ll be in a cap crunch

Nice idea but Kane will get more (my guess is $6mil+) and so will Tavares (my guess is $12mil+).

Tavares will get more on a bottom tier team...which he is actually in and deseperately trying to leave. He's testing the market to see if a top tier team wants him and what are their offers. No team at the top can pay Tavares 12+M$ a year. He'll accept a discount for a high end team. And still, 10.75M$ a year isn't too shabby lol. I easily can see him accepting that deal with a team like SJS, BOS, WSH, LAK, CLB, STL, MIN, etc. For Evander Kane, yeah on the open market, if he's only after the money (which wouldn't be such a surprise to anyone haha), he could get upward of 6M$ a year (in the 6.2-6.3M range), but it's going really great for him in San Jose , so I can see him accepting 500-600K$ a year less to make the plan work, don't you think?

I too think JT will end up a shark. I wouldn't sign Kane though, cap crunch and you lose your 1st round pick if you sign him. The NYI trade makes no sense, I think you have to give them a 3rd to take him. Would a Jonathan Ericsson (Detroit) with rs for Paul Martin and a 4th work?

Yep you're right. But for 2019-2020, with my suggestions, they'd have 23M$ of cap space with Couture, Pavelski, Doonskoi, Meier and Labanc to sign (if the cap gets up by 3M$ between 2018-2019 and 2019-2020, so at 83M since I assume it'll be up at 80M$ this summer, which is the current understanding around the NHL). So it's doable, with 6.8 to 7 for Couture, 6-6.5 for Pavelski and you get 9.5M$ for Meier Doonskoi and Labanc.

Yeah they only have to under pay Tavares and Kane and move out Martin who nobody wants (and they still get a 3rd some how)

Underpay!?? Would he still be the second highest paid player in the ENTIRE NHL??? (pssst! Yes, he would!) So, basically, you're saying that he's all in for the money. It's his only goal in testing the market, not finding the ideal contender...I think you don't understand his motivations

So you barely make him the 2nd highest paid player. Teams are going to be offerimg more money. Vegas could offer him more and he wouldnt have to live in California and be on a bigger contender. Thats just one team.

DW is fairly cheap. JT is getting 5m more than I'd expect him too with the Sharks. Kane is unpaid. I bet he gets 6m per year if signed, but your term is right in my opinion.

Demelo us overpaid, Hertl is probably going to be 4.5, with Tierney at 2.5m.

Martin and Boedker need to be traded for Kane and JT to come here. I'd be interested in packaging Boedker with Martin for maybe a 3rd (though that seems high). Also, you can forget about trading assets to NYI if we sign their captain.

    We don't need Benn.
