Ok lets talk July 2nd and compare Deals on Carlson, JVR and Kane, whoever wins has to delete there accounts? I'm going off history and I've just never seen great players who are on there possible last deals short themselves to win cups? If you have an example at the age 26, 27, 28 that got 4 year deals let me know serious I just don't see any? Id love to have Carlson at 4 years Id give him 8 million, history and logic just states otherwise.

I'm not really sure what else I can say? Guys like Staal, Thorton, Marleau all took some team friendly deals to try and win for sure, you just don't see it with guys younger. It's the reason these guys leave there teams.

I didn't realize Armchair GM was real!

Which guys are taking these deals to win? are you talking the 30 plus year olds? which guys? What Juice says makes perfect sense, I'm not really talking dollar amounts more term than anything.

I envisioned myself being a Ranger from the moment I stepped on the ice as a kid," explained Shattenkirk shortly after agreeing to terms. "When you have the opportunity to fulfill a lifelong dream like this, and it might be an opportunity that only comes once in my career, I felt like this was my chance."

I didn't realize you are JVR, Carlson and Moore's agent as well as VAN's GM, my bad! Bonuses is a legit concern here but you can likely save some dough on Nash/Vanek. As for Hyman, who cares! He plays on the top line and still can't hit 40 pts. He is solid trade bait.

I didn't realize you knew John Carlson and he was a life long Leaf Fan being an American.

Stamkos/Hedman/Kucherov
Crosby/Malkin
Holtby (If you compare him to what Price/Lundqvist/Rinne cost their teams)
Jamie Benn would have likely gotten more than $9.5 on the open market.

Even McDavid negotiated down with Edmonton last summer. Oilers offered him over $13m and he asked them to sign for less.

Again...we're not saying that you're wrong and we're right...simply saying they neither of us know for sure...there's examples on both sides so there's no point making any argument that isn't qualified with an "IMO"

Certainly cap wise it doesn't work. If Tanev is so good, please let him play for so other teams besides the Leafs. If defence is such as concern, that's 17m in forward UFA....some of them unneeded. Carlson I really can't see him signing with the Leafs. Sure Hyman is 40 point guy, not bad for a guy who never plays the PP.

Ok so it seems that Leaf fans don't want Tanev or Carlson and want to keep Hyman so here is a new idea (see trade above). i don't think this gets it done with Zaitsev as your 1RD but there isn't much out there that you could trade for. Weber maybe but MTL won't retain what you would want and a trade between TOR and MTL seems unlikely.

I will never understand what a # 1RHD is. Each Dman plays a number of shifts, so I find this rating system rather nonsensical. If the Leafs acquire a RHD, which I agree is somewhat needed it would to replace the Carrick/Polak combo. Would love to have Carlson but realistically there are too many suitors for his services. Leafs can certainly can live with Zaitsev and Hainsey next hear playing on the right side, admitting who played there also...could be Carrick or even Dermot. Thornton to Leafs, seems to a lot traction on this site, but does Thornton even a year left in him? And looking at how well San Jose is doing this year, what's his motivation to leave San Jose.
Gudas for Leivo makes sense, are both adequate NHLers? Weber is another deal, like Tanev, that seems to be the only trade destination is the Leafs. I'm sure the Leafs are scared like 30 other NHL teams with remaining eight years left on Weber's deal.

Ok how about you need a shutdown guy or at least someone who is more defensive minded to play against the other teams top line.

As for Thornton, I am not sure it will be his decision to return. Does SJ still want him or do they want to give an up and comer a roster spot?

Gudas can be a decent guy to stick with Gardiner. He can play that stay at home role while Gardiner does what he does.

Hi DD. Thanks for your definition of # 1 Dman. Of course I hear all the time with different meaning. For example Erik Karlsson, yep his team misses the playoffs half the time. Hedman, has missed the playoffs three times in his seven NHL career. Weber has won four playoff rounds in his NHL career. So, it's just that I'm not sold on some folks thinking that "# 1 Dman" brings you instant success.
Admitting the Leafs( and all teams could use help on defence). Leafs are 11th GAA so it's not that are that bad on defence. I know folks don't want to here it, but Polak has been good lately, and so has Dermot. By definition, Reilly and Hainsey are the Leafs top defensive pair.

Actually they are that bad it is just that Anderson bails them out. TOR allows the 4th highest amount of shots in the league. If Anderson goes cold you are trouble.

Really. Shots against may not be all that telling. And you say Andersen bails them out? Actually McIlerney has a better GAA, and better save % than Andersen. So do the Leafs have the two best goalies the league?
Any goalie that gets cold in the playoffs spells trouble for their team.

Andersen has the most shots against in the league.
. Probably, he has more starts than any other goalie.
The shot against is really kinda meaningless. Are you implying that if one team allows four goals on thirty shots, and another team allows three goals on thirty two shots, the team with the lowest number of shots have better defencemen?
It's similar nonsense on shots on goal for a team. What is the better offensive team.? A team that scores three goals in thirty shots, or a team that scores four goals in twenty five shots.

Lmao, when you are allowing 35 shots per game it’s a problem. Your bias is showing...

No your bias is showing by loving stats, certain stats. Leafs are 4th worse in shots against....Anaheim with their "star" Dmen or 5th, Tampa with Hedman and Stralmen is 8th. So until shots could be broken down in scoring opportunities, caused by defensemen poor play, it's really difficult to say a team has bad defencemen. In a relatively low scoring era, I doubt a team with the 7th best record has a collection of bad defencemen.
But thanks for not answering my questions on my previous comments

I guess you are missing the point here. The leafs have a young core of forwards that clearly struggle defensively. Adding a steady D man helps negate the mistakes of the kids. Got it?

I love how you guys know exactly what contract these guys are going to get! It's fking laughable! Did you all think Kucherov would sign for under $5 mil on a bridge deal? Not a chance! This is all just screwing around and none of us know what these contracts will be. Get over yourselves!
