1. Carlson, JVR, Moore are not signing or resigning in TOR. Longterm hell. Also.. bonuses and Horton on LTIR (his cap is counting into cap space)
2. Tanev is NOT getting traded from VAN and I rather not comment on getting Hyman out, that is just stupid, he is staying..
3. Nylander is getting 6.5 atleast for max term.

Under paying Nylander by at least a million, would need to move out contracts for Mathews and Marner

It is called a bridge deal. Take a look at Kucherov.

I like some of the ideas here. Leafs don't actually have the cap space to pull them all off but the concepts are logical.

At the very least, the Leafs will be on the hook for Matthews/Marner/Nylander's performance bonuses from this year which will be around $2.55m. Could be another $2m on top of that if Matthews finds a way to hit his Schedule B bonus.

Just my opinion but here are my concerns:
1. Leaf fans need to back of Zaitsev. Let the guy find his form. He was terrific last year and at the beginning of this year.
2. It would be fun to see Big Joe in a leafs jersey next year. Not sure if he'll leave San Jose and not sure if he's durable enough to rely on any more.
3. Rick Nash at $4.5 for 2 years would be a steal
4. I like the bridge contract for Nylander
5. Carlson at $7m seems like an appropriate number...any higher than that and I'd walk away and hope for a shot at Doughty next off season instead.
6. I can't see a scenario where Dom Moore comes back. The guy's done everything you'd want from a 4C but they keep stashing him in the press box
7. I'd rather keep Hyman and Zaitsev, re-sign JVR...and see if the money you're giving Nash + Thornton is enough to land you Tavares. They'd still be short on cap space tho.

I didn't realize you are JVR, Carlson and Moore's agent as well as VAN's GM, my bad! Bonuses is a legit concern here but you can likely save some dough on Nash/Vanek. As for Hyman, who cares! He plays on the top line and still can't hit 40 pts. He is solid trade bait.

The Leafs biggest concern is defense. I feel like I have addressed that here. If you have to add more for Tanev then so be it.

1. There's been little word from either Carlson or JVR's camp for anyone to say where they will or won't sign. Bonuses are a factor but Matthews' injuries look like they'll keep him from hitting his $2m schedule B bonus. Alsot Horton can still be put on IR in the off-season, just like this year.

2, Tanev may or may not get traded. That package wouldn't get it done tho and I personally don't like him enough to offer anything more

3. Nylander might be smart to sign a bridge deal for 2yrs and see if he can't turn himself into a full time centre. He'd be worth $8+ as a C but probably <$7m as a winger. If the leafs can get him for $6.5m for 8yrs that's a good deal for them

Moore is just kind of a fill in really. Anyone who has some defensive skills can go there. Wouldn't pay more than $1 mil though.
Only reason I slot Jumbo in is maybe San Jose moves on and he comes and plays with Marleau.
I feel like Zaitsev is an ok 2nd pairing guy but not the shutdown guy like Tanev, which is more of what the Leafs need to offset Gardiner.

I must need to watch more west coast hockey because I have no idea why everyone loves Tanev so much. Zaitsev is the definition of sophomore slump but that is a hell of a package for a D that can't score and cant seem to stay healthy.

Nash is more realistic than most realize and the numbers and term are good.

The rest has us in a cap nightmare with no money for Matthews and Marner. A bridge for Nylander is a good idea but that's 2M per too much. His career numbers mirror Palat and has signed to 5.3M with term.

Isn't Carlson mediocre on the defensive side of the puck?

The main problem is not next year but the year after, 2019/2020. You have 9 F/A or RFA and about 17,500,000 million at the new cap of 79 mil. Say it goes up 3 million, you have 20.5 million to sign 9 players. If you go the bridge deal route, Matthews is going to get at least 2 million more than Nylander, Marner gets at least what Nylander gets and Kapanen gets say 3 mil. That is 16 million for those 3 and leaves you 4 million for 6 players. All will need to be young and cheap. you lose two d-man, a top 4 and need to flesh out the forwards lines.

Do I want to win the come now or not? Yes but this is like a Fantasy Hockey Team in a Pool lol.

Leafs are not moving Zaitsev when they just signed him for 7 years, he's a glue guy for Babcock.

Tanev sure they could get but to remove roster players makes no sense, they would move Prospects or Picks. Timothy Liljegren or a 1st would be ideal.

Carlson deal will be at least 6-7 years as this will more than likely be his last deal. Money is bang on though.

JVR term is to short he will be in the same boat as Carlson, could actually see the money being around 6 mill to.
I don't think he is coming back either, they need to make room for the big 3.

Nylander will go Max Term with higher cap hit as well.

I love how you guys know exactly what contract these guys are going to get! It's fking laughable! Did you all think Kucherov would sign for under $5 mil on a bridge deal? Not a chance! This is all just screwing around and none of us know what these contracts will be. Get over yourselves!

I don't have any actual numbers in there but why would Carlson being 28 years old sign till he's 32? History just proves that those players want or get there max term deals usually around the 6-7 year mark. If you've seen different let me know but from what I've seen Loui, Ladd, Lucic, Nielson etc all got max deals and those players were not very good from the get go. Carlson is one of the better D on the FA Market in years.

Same goes for JVR these guys are not going to accept short term deals cause it could be there last, this is there time to cash in.

I'm just going by history and logic not Fantasy Pool stuff.

LMAO, every guy you listed there is garbage and now the teams hate those contracts. Eventually teams learn.

I guess Kane will get 4 years to? be 30 when his deal ends? Lets do a poll on this Thread.

Kane signs 6x7 or 6x7

Kane signs 6x4

Carlson signs 7x4

Carlson signs 7x6

I am using the assumption that these guys maybe want to win a cup or 2 or 3 in those 4 years. I wouldn't even consider signing Carlson to $7 per at 6 or 7 years, same with JVR.

That doesn't change anything though? They can still win in those 4 years and get 7 year deals? This is a weird conversation lol.

I tend to side with @DirtyDangles on this topic.

None of us have a clue where players want to sign....how much they're demanding...if they want to go short term bridge, bet on themselves, and hope for a bigger pay day 2-3 years from now....are they concerned about another lock-out? Are they willing to sign for less to help a team build a winner or are they just looking for top dollar? Look...we all have our guesses, but they're just that - guesses.

I don't see anything wrong with commenting on someone's post and stating "IMO"...but guys who pass their opinions off as fact and use that "fact" so slam someones ACGM team need to get their heads checked.

For the record, I think E. Kane gets a 4-5 yr deal....but who knows...could be 3...could be 7. Just because he demands something doesn't mean he'll get it. GM's are slowly getting smarter (Chiarelli excluded)

Kevin Shattenkirk was the top D-man on the market last off season and he got a 4 year deal. I'm sure if you go back and look at a bunch of ACGM teams made prior to July 1, 2017 you'll see a lot of 6 and 7 year deals and plenty of comments saying he's going to get $7mx7yrs.

We simple folk can't possibly say with any certainty what terms/dollars are going to be.

Players know the more they get...the less the team has to spend. Some recognize that they can earn more elsewhere....but would rather take less to help the team be competitive.

It's what makes the Ottawa situation so interesting (from an outsiders perspective, anyway)
I don't blame Karlsson for saying he's going to leave if he doesn't get paid...because the team has the cap space but ownership refuses to spend up to it
I also don't blame Melnyk because you have a team going to the conf. finals and fans still don't fill the building

Ok lets talk July 2nd and compare Deals on Carlson, JVR and Kane, whoever wins has to delete there accounts? I'm going off history and I've just never seen great players who are on there possible last deals short themselves to win cups? If you have an example at the age 26, 27, 28 that got 4 year deals let me know serious I just don't see any? Id love to have Carlson at 4 years Id give him 8 million, history and logic just states otherwise.

I'm not really sure what else I can say? Guys like Staal, Thorton, Marleau all took some team friendly deals to try and win for sure, you just don't see it with guys younger. It's the reason these guys leave there teams.
