Why would Tavres choose to come to MTL? Of all the places that can afford him, MTL is not one of the places he would be considering.

His entire career in MTL hangs from the Habs winning the lottery thus drafting Dahlin and convincing arguably one of the biggest UFA's in recent NHL history to sign with us.

Tavares comes to Montreal for the 14.5/8 year deal and not too many teams would be able to match the offer and you have to overpay anyways to account for taxes/media etc. The cap situation can be easily fixed, you can get rid of Shaw or Alzner for some picks. It might get messy if the cap doesn't increase significantly over the next few years.

Roster is based on winning the lottery twice in Dhalin and Tavares. As for Cap, put Alzner on LTIR claiming the only way to be that slow is to be injured

If Edmonton can win the lottery 10 years straight, or whatever it was, anything can happen.

free agents can only sign for 7 (8 if they are re-signing with original team) and over cap but we don't know what the cap would be so maybe. Tavares said he wants to go to a team that is willing to do anything to win and the parts around him will not be able to do that nor would we ever with that contract. 31 mil in 3 players and you could get two good centers centers for his 14.5 mil cost.

Mtl can't sign him for 8 yrs unless they trade for before hand, otherwise it's a 7 yrs MAX
