Trade with Arz not OEL

Description
This is a trade that makes sence for both teams. Adding depth on the back end is the goal. Hjarmalson is having a tough season with a couple injuries and may waive ntc/nmc to move into a team that will be a playoff team.
Transactions
TOR
  1. Hjalmarsson, Niklas
Détails additionnels:
What is Hjalmarssons value his stats show that hes a shutdown pk guy. 25 gp with 4 pts this season. He was a number 4 /5 guy during Chicago's stanley cup runs and thats where i see him still. With Dermott playing so well he needs to stay in the lineup and him beside polak doesnt make any sense but dermott with hjalmarsson does make sense

This is kinda wild, Hjalmarsson would be your 2nd best defenceman, and would probably cost more than Sosh and a 3rd.

Leafs don't need guy like Hjalmarsson. There are cheaper options out there but TOR doesnt need that. Hjalmarsson is great defensive defender but Toronto does not need that. Maybe if Hjalmarsson stays pretty decent after 2 yrs (when Hainsey retires) Leafs can sign him for like 2 mils per and he would be great addition until some guy (Räsänen) becomes fully NHL ready..

Aaaand I think Hjalmarsson was actually top-2 guy during chicago's stanley cup wins. He played with Keith for many years.

Leaf fans ridiculously overvalue Soshnikov. A player with 14 points in 70 career games does not get you Hjalmarsson.

Everyone thinks that he was a top 2 but that was actually for only part of 1 season during their last stanley cup run. He was a number 4 for most of his time in Chicago. See this is an interesting one because people talk about cheaper options and i agree with looking at that but saying Hjalmarsson isnt what thw Leafs need is crazy talk. He plays the right side and kills penalties. Hes the perfect fit for the Leafs in every single way. If we have an injury he can play up the line up and eat mins due to his skating ability. Right now we have rookies and polak for depth . A team wins the cup with 10 defenceman not 6

The Leafs' blue line is doing so well right now, it's hard to justify adding Hjalmarsson... Especially given the number of talented LHDs we have. Carrick seems more than capable of handling the third pairing and he's a right shot - he's doing better than Hjal on any imaginable stat. And we have Holl who can step in. I like the idea of developing our youth. At least, I'm glad you haven't proposed an OEL trade, and that you haven't depleted the team.

Not trying to bash him but he doesn't have a ton of value. Could he be a piece in a package for Hjalmarsson? Sure, but I think that package is headlined by a 1st and another prospect and Soshnikov is a bit of a throw in.

As i stated in my post. What is his value? An NHL ready guy and a 3rd. A 1st and a B level prospect. He only had 13 pts in 72 games last season i believe so our 2nd best dman is a big stretch. Hes not the same player he was 4 years ago in Chicago

He is a left shot but plays the right side and has his whole NHL carreer

Hjalmarsson actually has played both sides of the ice quite often. As well he was commonly used as Chicago's 2nd pairing anchor not as a 3rd pair. However because of Keith and Seabrook being the 1st pair the TOI is often skewed on that team for their defense. The Hammer is the pinnacle of defensive defensemen and would cost tje Leafs prime assests to acquire him. Connor Murphy is in the mold of Hjalmarsson but is right handed. Dauphin (who was recently traded back to the Coyotes) has middle 6 player potential so it isn't like he was traded for peanuts there.

I'd say try something like Borgman, Rychel, and a 4th.

Hammer will get more than package you offered. But really why do the Leafs need him? Reilly, Gardiner, Zaitsev, Hainsey are definitely top four. And Leafs are developing rookies Borgman, Dermot and even 2nd year man Carrick. So who does he bump that makes sense for the Leafs?

Dermott bumps Borgman and hammer bumps polak and carrick so this insurers dermott has a veteran presence on his right side. Also i asked what his value was in my post in no way did i make the offer above thinking thats what would get the deal done. I know palhal you are very good to break down posts on this site but it drives a guy nuts whe n posters come on and repond saying this deal would never work and thats it . They clearly dont read or understand that we are looking for constructive breakdowns of my original question on my post.. what is his value? In no way am i putting u in this category

You said “this is a trade that makes sense for both teams”, which is not true. I’m not sure what his value is, but a 1st would likely be part of it, plus a decent prospect.

Hammer is a NHL Dman, so I would think that someone team would either offer a NHL regular or a good prospect. Especially come TDL and Hammers good contract I would think some team, especially a true contender would offer Arizona a solid prospect and more. Soshnikov is a fringe NHLer, so I doubt if the is enough. More like Brown or Kapanen for Hammer. Regarding the Leafs defencemen. The top four is fine, and Carrick, Dermot and Borgman might be next pairing (maybe even Polak). Despite not having a "name" players on the bottom two or three, the Leafs seem to want to run the course with this group, and Dermot and Borgman and now that Carrick is playing against, these guys are quite satisfactory. If anything the Leafs need an upgrade at centre, if not this spring, next fall.
