Description
I was trying to work out deal where Schenn comes to Boston and St Louis can upgrade their goaltending. Before anyone go nuts because of Rask's slow start, its not uncommon for him (just look at his career splits).

The way I tried to put this trade together is like this.

Rask for Allen - I call this a fringe wash, maybe St. Louis adds. Both guys are signed for 3 years. Rask is the better goalie (also 3yr older) while Allen is the cheaper goalie. I struggle with the idea of Boston downgrading on their goaltending because I know Halak can't keep the pace he's on, but goaltending is something St. Louis is looking for.

Career #'s
Allen - 2.55 GAA / .911 SV% / 16 SO
Rask - 2.26 GAA / .922 SV% / 41 SO

That leaves us with...

Schenn for Heinen + Cehlarik + 2019 2nd + 2020 Conditional 2nd

Honestly IDK that its enough. Since 2015, Schenn ranks 19th in points among centers, 17th in goals & 27th in assists. Schenn is also 1st in that time frame among centers in PPG and 8th in PPP.

Heinen is a young LW/RW coming off a 47pt rookie year. He's got a simple 200ft game, but will never really amaze you with highlight reel plays. He reminds me of a Loui Eriksson style of player, he'll produce but you wont really remember it lol

Cehlarik seems to be stuck in the B's system with all the other young wingers they have. Cheliark has the size and skill, but in Boston they seem to be unhappy with his play along the boards. A change of scenery might be best and rumors were teams were calling on him last TDL.

The picks are kind of self explanatory in this one.

I think unless Boston is willing to give up a 1st, they need a better prospect than Cehlarik. Maybe someone like JFK or a LHD like Zboril (although it seems like St. Louis has enough LHD).

In the end I don't think either team does this deal.

For STL - I just don't know that the pieces for Schenn are quite "wowing" enough. Schenn is a very underrated player and only 27 years old. Next year at the TDL, you could easily get a 1st + good prospect for him assuming he keeps his current production

For BOS - As good as Halak is right now, he's going to cool down. When that happens, how confident are you in a tandem of Halak/Allen?

So why am I posting? well, I wrote this all out while I thought it through and figured I might as well post it so I didn't waste the effort to write it out.

Schenn has perfrormed like a top line center and, alone, would probably cost the Bruins something like their 2019 1st round draft pick, Jake DeBrusk and third piece, perhaps Jack Studnicka or Zach Senyshyn. Because both goalies being dealt here you'd be selling low on, there really shouldn't be any discounts considered. That said, I highly doubt Rask would be willing to waive his NTC anyway.

Bruins are getting robbed. Allen stinks (and unlike Rask, actually does, stink, and has always stunk), and a couple years of schenn isn't worth Tuukka and Heinen plus. I think value wise, Tuukka for Allen and Schenn, and maybe a mid level pick would be fair. The fact that two picks are going back to St. Louis is beyond bonkers.

Works for me, but as you say i don’t see either side doing it.

Would leave Blues with a big hole at C unless they think Thomas can handle that responsibilty.

Rask has had no desire to leave Boston. So the NMC is a problem.

And where in here did I mention that Rask was getting Schenn? I didn't, in fact my description above shows every other piece but Rask being traded for Schenn lol
