I must say...I thought about it a lot and I really much like this trade! The value is there, the needs are filled both ways (that is, considering they trade away Zucker since they can't fit Zucker Dumba AND Pac's).
MIN might be hesitant doing that trade without a confirmation that Max entends with them, but still it's a fair price for a year of Max Pacioretty (I honestly think he would resign there). Well played
But it doesn't fill our needs at all... Our need is a young right shot top 6 forward. Max would be a death sentence for us, just like Pominville was when we traded for him. Max just hired a new agent so we know he's looking for a long deal with a ton of money. He'd be good for a few years and then the last 3-4 years we'd be stuck with a bad contract and make a move like we made last summer with Buffalo.
Brodin is untouchable right now because Suter broke his talus at the end of the season. Suter's future is a huge question mark so unless we are getting a top pairing LD coming back to replace Brodin, we aren't moving him.
This fills the Habs needs, but not the Wild's. The only player on the Habs that fills our needs is Gallagher, and MTL won't trade him.
Edit: Also, we aren't trading away our first. In the past 6 drafts we've traded away 3 1st's (if you count Tuch), and 4 2nd's. Our prospect pool has really suffered as a result. This would be a huge overpayment for Patches as Brodin is a 25 year old shut-down defenseman that can play top pairing minutes.
