better is really a relative word here isn't it. You are talking about a guy with a 47% corsi over the last 3 years, not breaking even in any of them.
Given he does do 56% of his starts in the Dzone.
He's ok. probably, but the real issue is does he actually fit the penguins, and I don't think that's true.
You have to be a good skater to play the penguins system. Which is why the stay at home Defensive defenseman doesn't work well here.
They need players who have above average mobility. Especially in that 2LD role, as Graves who's lack of mobility will put him in that stay at home role in his own end going forward. We saw that at the end of the year.
So the whole "better" is a relative term here. I don't think he's a better fit. Not that I like POJ there, I don't, and I'm content with not resigning him. Just like I'm content with keeping the 2.5 mil on Middleton and hitting up FA for a better fit on the back end.
