Leafs and Caps TDL

Would honestly explore a buy low on TVR + Dowd at this point

If the Caps add Mantha in the deal at half retained, with a couple of contracts going back like Timmins and Reaves to make the cap work, then the Leafs should make a trade like this happen.

Counter offer: Dowd ($650,000 retained, 50%,) Jensen, and BOS 25 2nd for TOR 24 1st, the worst of Torontos three 24 5th round picks, Jarnkrok, and Niemela.

Jarnkrok is great and I've heard a lot of Leafs fans say they want to keep him, but where does he fit into the lineup when he comes back? The top 9 has really started clicking the last few weeks, especially guys like Knies, Bertuzzi, and McMann who are in spots that Jarnkrok would play in, and he is not fourth line player. Why not use him as part of a deal for one of the best fourth line centers in the league and finally a good, right handed D partner that Morgan Reilly has been missing nearly his entire career, both of whom have term. Jensen is solid at both ends of the ice and a really quick, smooth skater, which would allow Reilly to take some chances. I have it as Dowd for the first (like you said, probably an overpay but it sounds like that's what he'll go for,) and then Jensen and the second for Jarnkrok, Niemela, and a fifth. I knew Jarnkrok and Niemela straight up for Jensen was too much, so I added a second next year to get some value going back to Toronto.

McMann - Tavares - Robertson
Holmberg - Dowd - Kampf

Reilly - Jensen
Brodie - Liljegren
Benoit - McCabe

Jensen isn't a top pairing guy, complete waste of assets. If the leafs added Dowd they would need to move Kampf somehow.

Thanks for feedback; sounds reasonable. I just don’t see Domi as long term solution (playoffs) at 2C. Great on the rush, but you can see that line get hemmed in their own end at times. I’m keeping Jarnkrok - we can make room for him. No easy or obvious solution - be interesting to see what Tre does
