Description
The biggest issue I see right now is coaching. There are roster issues and such, but when the roster is completely overhauled but the team has the exact same issues then that is coaching. There's no team defense. No structure to the defense. The team is not fast enough to try and outstate opponents and have constant offense. I get that the goal was to just outscore opponents, but that cannot happen without a bottom 6. The better option is to have a structured team that is able to utilize Karlsson, Letang, Crosby, Malkin, while still having structure and sound defensive play. If this continues I think a coaching change could be in order. When power play is this bad with some of the best power play players in the league, that's squarely on coaching imo. We have one of the best coaches in the league, but I just feel it might be time for a different system and coaching style to adapt to our team. In terms of roster, need a better bottom 6 and 3rd pairing D. To do this we will have to trade away a good player to free up cap. I don't know which one it will be, but I think trading a good player for more depth in the bottom 6 might not be a bad idea given how Crosby + Malkin can elevate players in top 6.

Obviously not this many trades are going to happen, but just some ideas.

Trying to piece together what the Sabres have, what's in the pipeline, and what they will need to take the next step, I don't see rakell as a need. They have undersized scoring wingers coming (not that rakell is exactly undersized), they need competent two way forwards (depending on what granato can do with his current roster), and I'd be looking for more size and grit to go with it. Don't see spending a 2nd on rakell.

Not that AA is some super stud or anything, but I doubt CHI would retain all that for two years just for what is likely to be a late 2nd. But, it's possible.

Many AGM’s are offering a 1st for Tanev without retention, so a 2nd alone isn’t going to cut it. Add a 1st or A Prospect, like Owen Pickering or Brayden Yager (we’d accept a lesser pick if it’s Yager)

Using what being offered “on other ACGMs” is just about as nonsensical as it gets when talking about REAL LIFE

He’s a 2nd pair quality, RENTAL
You’re not gonna get a haul for him
