All value debates aside.. Toronto is only willing to trade Nylander if a defenceman is going back the other way. This deal doesn’t have it so it wouldn’t be taken. Most likely target would be Marino, with secondary targets being Bahl or a long shot in Hughes. If this turns into a situation with a contract extension for Nylander it would likely involve a roster player to replace Nylander as well.
Hughes likely doesn’t make sense for New Jersey to love, Marino would be a tough deal unless the Devils want to rush Nemec to top 4 minutes which I don’t think they would. So that leaves Bahl as the defensive target which fits Treliving’s style of defence.
I’d say it looks something like this:
Nylander (with extension) for Bahl, Mercer, 2nd that turns into a 1st if New Jersey makes the conference finals
