I don't understand much of what Trotz is doing. I do hope it blows up in their faces though.

I could see them moving him at the deadline, if they're sellers again. Not before that though.

NSH shouldn't be trading any 1sts, unless they're getting a #1 center in the deal. Despite the rumours from a few weeks ago that Trotz was kicking Pesce's tires, trading for him doesn't make sense, unless NSH is trading away one of the defensemen they already have. CAR isn't hurting for quantity on their backend either, so I don't see a fit here.

Personally, id rather trade him now incase he goes the way of Jeannot. I could see teams wanting his possible production at minimal cap (especially a team like Boston now that Berg has retired and Krejci likely as well). Personally, i see the current center situation best served as ROR, Parssinen, Glass, Sissons with Novak being flexed over to wing due to his defensive and faceoff deficiencies.

As for this trade, if the 2025 1st is conditional on it being the lesser of the Nashville or Tampa 1st then id be game for it. Nashville finds an outlet for barrie and carrier and runs pesce, fabbro, schenn down the right side. Maybe we move fabbro in the future and make room for livingstone if he develops. Pesce is young enough to hang through a retool.

I agree with the sentiment that if the Preds were going to trade a 1st for Pesce, the one they’d be offering up would be the Bolts’ pick they got for Jeannot.

Personally, I don’t think it would take much more than that to nab Pesce at this point. I think he’s worth a late 1st +, but not many teams have the cap for him at the moment and the Canes need cap space to go out and sign Tarasenko/trade for another forward. So, if the Preds offered up, say, the Bolts’ 1st and a 3rd, I’d take it and run.
