What if we changed the 3rd with a 2nd, but we only retain 800,000 on Driedger?

Let me get this straight. Montreal has a young local goalie that just had a very good season and are trading him for a more expensive older goalie that's never played 30 games in a season? For a late 3rd?

Carolina deal looks fine, but it feels like Carolina would rather pay less with zero retention.

You probably couldn't get Montembeault away from them with any realistic trade. I'd think he's off the table for now, let alone trading us Driedger who is an actual cap dump. Driedger has a career total of 65 games at 29 years old. He's barely a veteran. Monty has a career total of 103 games at 3 years younger. I think you can dump Driedger, just not to Mtl and not for Monty. Arizona might be the place though. I'd do this exact deal with Ingram instead of Monty, and I'd think Arizona might do it too. He's only played 30 games, but is 26 as well and there might be some decent backup potential in him. He's an RFA who had a very decent 4 playoff games for Nashville as pretty much an ebug. Arizona might even take less for him. Plus, a .907 in 27 for Arizona is quite something when facing an avg of 35 shots a night.

The deal I'd think would be ok is Driedger full price, a third and sixth for Ingram. That way you dump that whole contract, help Arizona reach the cap floor, and get a cheap goalie. Just my 2 cents.

Change it for a first with no retention on Drieger and Habs might consider, but still decline
