The Alex Iafallo trade is based upon the deal by which we acquired Viktor Arvidsson -- a current year's second (40th overall) and the following year's third (which turned out to be 84th overall). I anticipate Buffalo moving Victor Olofsson, thus having interest in Iafallo (and probably getting a 2023 second for Olofsson to offset the one given to us here). This allows us the cap flexibility to spend up to $5 million on a quality LhD for the second pairing.

If Brandt Clarke is ready for prime time, we might be able to trade Sean Durzi or Jordan Spence to make room for him. Or Clarke might be an injury replacement, which wouldn't require creating a roster slot for him.

With Erik Portillo in the fold, we'll probably only sign two of the three RFA goaltender prospects shown here (on the LTIR list).

Obviously, the last three forward slots (Grundstrom, Anderson-Dolan and MacEwen) are dependent on what happens in training camp, or if any other trades occur. In particular, I expect Alex Turcotte and Sam Fa-gem-o to get long looks in September.

I really like the look of the team shown here, especially the top 12 (plus options). While I don't expect Caden Price (my preferred 2023 draft selection) to still be available at 39th overall, perhaps Tanner Molendyk will be. Or perhaps the Kings would like to pick Carson Bjarnason or Michael Hrabal in order to add a second arrow to the starting goalie prospect quiver along with Erik Portillo.
