Every time you trade Alex Iafallo, a little piece of me dies inside.
I feel your pain, and I know that your comment is only half-humorous.
I think that we have no choice: one of Cal Petersen (probably untradeable except at a loss), Viktor Arvidsson (reduced value because he's a rental) or Alex has to go. And Alex has high value, either in draft capital or on-ice assets. Wouldn't you rather have Linus Ullmark for the next two seasons rather than Alex, no matter how valuable he is? And it might be as simple as Alex for Vlad Gavrikov or Ryan Graves.
You know that many times I've said Iafallo is LA's most underrated player, and unspoken but implied in that statement is that only good players are underrated. But we've got to go forward. Icing the same team that we did in 2022-2023 is unlikely to give us a different outcome, no matter how much Byfield, Kaliyev and Kupari have progressed.
Mind you, had we not traded our 2023 first but traded our 2024 first and 2025 second for Jake McCabe (each pick one year earlier than the one Chicago got from Toronto), we wouldn't be in this fix.
