Description

I have noticed a lot of posts on here saying that Petry has 0 value and the Pens would be happy to get rid of him for free and not pay anything. I believe this has come from fellow Pens fans just sending him off for nothing and giving fans of other teams this idea that he was horrible this year.

I am not saying he's worth this great return but I do believe that he's worth at least a late 3rd, you Pens fans see we missed the playoffs and think everyone was just bad when in reality it came down to goaltending,

I also have seen this, not as much, with Pettersson, who was arguably a top 5 defensive defenseman on a pretty good deal. The fact that I saw another teams fan make a Pens retool and cap dumped his contract because he has seen Pens fans complain about him just blows my mind.

You can panic all you want, but now you're giving outsiders this idea that players with value are cap dumps worth nothing.

Totally agree.
I think him and Pettersson were a great pairing and if that is your 2nd pairing, you are laughing.
He played on the 2nd pair for most of the year and was on the 2nd PP and was still on pace for 40 points.
Sign a top guy like Graves to pair with Letang and that d-core is good to go.

Yes I believe Petry still has some value, maybe more like a 4th round pick. His cap hit sucks which makes it hard for other GMs to see that 4th round value.

Between him and Granlund, I would probably keep Petry but one of them definitely has to go due to Hextall's misuse of the cap.

This roster as constructed sits 5th in the metro. You'll do better than the caps, worse than the islanders.
You're not beating the devils, hurricanes or rangers for position.
You might squeak into the playoffs if buffalo/florida/ottawa don't have a 100 pt season next year.
You'll win 45 games. not 50.
You have no goaltending, your defense is not getting better, its getting worse, and its getting older. You now have the oldest roster in the league (the caps got younger you didnt), and you're not actively tanking.
In a league this competitive that is the worst possible thing you can do.
