Disregarding this trade proposal itself, I think one point that no one's yet pointed out with regard to the Merkley trade to COL is that between Burns and now Merks getting traded, this likely signals that Erik Karlsson is to stay in San Jose (unless absolutely blown away by an offer a la 3 1st round picks and minimal retention).

If the plan was to trade Karlsson, they would've told that to Ryan and kept him and played him in EK65's spot.

If a team offered to take Karlsson for free, the sharks would be over the moon.

Nah.

Dubas isn't interested in trading a 1st and two prospects for a couple of rentals. If Horvat comes with an extension then maybe, but Meier would be a better fit on this team.

I feel like he might because his job is or should be on the line.
