As executive vice president of hockey operations, Dubas would be given the opportunity to look over everything and structure the organzation which he seems to be good at. He’s good at structuring a winning team, not utilizing them correctly or enough to succeed in the playoffs. Getting another perspective from a more experienced person like Weeks or even someone who knows how to develop players like Ryan Hardy who is president of ur minor league hockey operations and former GM of the Chicago Steel would change that. Maybe even consider Darche, the Director of Hockey Operations for Tampa and has won back to back cups with them.
My first move would be to trade Marner. He’s a great player but the Leafs need cap space, a long term solution for goalie, and room for errors. The real reason the Leafs lose in the playoffs is because they have no room for inevitable errors; once something goes wrong they give up. Its nothing against Marner but Nylander costs less and is arguably just as good or atleast almost as good, plus no one wants tavares with that contract.
