Description
Trying to keep it a reasonably active deadline to push for the cup without spending an insane amount of top. Tried to keep all trades as balanced as I think they should be. Trade explanations will be on the Carolina side of each offer. These are supposed to be trades that all work together so that the Canes can build a strong roster heading into the playoffs.

NOTE: Please make sure to understand that, once again, these trades aren't meant to be looked at individually but as a whole for the Canes. Alright, sorry for all the reading, you may now proceed to roast me.

1.
CAR
  1. Paul, Nicholas
Détails additionnels:
Canes acquire a very underrated forward that can play up and down the lineup. Will likely walk in the offseason however but will really help the Canes push to a cup this season.
OTT
  1. Martinook, Jordan
  2. Choix de 3e ronde en 2022 (CHI)
  3. Choix de 7e ronde en 2022 (CBJ)
Détails additionnels:
Sens get a depth forward that's a bit more expensive than Paul, but pick up two picks in the draft for a player who seems likely ends up walking in the offseason.
2.
CAR
  1. Hagel, Brandon
Détails additionnels:
Notes: Canes acquire a very good player having what probably is a career year. Can slot into the top line allowing Canes to not have to overload the top line and spread scoring around. They risk losing a 1st round pick in next years draft, but they have plenty of organizational depth to survive a hit like that and it would be worth it if they manage to make a finals appearance/championship win.
CHI
  1. Heimosalmi, Aleksi
  2. Suzuki, Ryan
  3. Choix de 2e ronde en 2022 (CAR)
  4. Choix de 2e ronde en 2023 (CAR)
Détails additionnels:
Conditional 2022 2nd round pick (CAR): If the Carolina Hurricanes advance to the 2022 Stanley Cup Final, the pick will change into a 2023 1st.

Notes: Chicago acquires two very good prospects that play a complete game. They also get two very good draft picks , with the possibility of one of the picks becoming a 1st.
3.
CAR
  1. Choix de 7e ronde en 2023 (NYI)
Détails additionnels:
Late pick for the Canes as a placeholder for giving up an NHL level player even though its a cap dump.
NYI
  1. Stepan, Derek
  2. Choix de 5e ronde en 2022 (CAR)
Détails additionnels:
Isles take on some cap space but gain a fairly decent pick in the draft for it, as they likely will want more picks going into the retool this offseason.
4.
CAR
  1. Sanheim, Travis
Détails additionnels:
Canes get a defensive upgrade heading into playoffs. Sanheim could possible take Skjei's 2nd pair spot next to Pesce.

Maybe I am undervaluing him? Feel free to let me know.
PHI
  1. Cole, Ian
  2. Keane, Joey
  3. Rees, Jamieson
  4. Seeley, Ronan
  5. Smith, Brendan
  6. Choix de 4e ronde en 2022 (CAR)
  7. Choix de 3e ronde en 2023 (CAR)
Détails additionnels:
Philadelphia absorbs the cap hits of Ian Cole and Smith to make the cap work. They also help their rebuild by adding 3 very solid prospects and 2 good picks.
5.
CAR
  1. Dermott, Travis
Détails additionnels:
Canes acquire a depth defenseman with their remaining cap to fill out 7th defenseman role in case of an injury.
TOR
  1. Lafontaine, Jack
  2. Choix de 6e ronde en 2022 (ANA)
Détails additionnels:
Toronto gets a pick in return for a player who likely won't play on their roster again. They also free up some cap space and roster spot so that they can go out and acquire a better player at the deadline (ex. Hampus Lindholm). They also add a goalie prospect that seems to have an NHL future.

For the most part I don’t mind this. However, the Ottawa and Toronto trades stick out as trades that don’t happen. For the Ottawa trade, Martinook just signed a 3 year extension with the Canes, and he wears a letter for a reason. He is a very big part of the team, and while Paul may be better, he doesn’t replace what we would lose in Martinook. Then moving on to the Toronto trade, Dermott is ok, but LaFontaine is going to cost a lot more than that, considering the Leafs goalie situation right now and in the future, but LaFontaine is likely either the backup next year or is the first call up in goal. You could just take out the Toronto trade and take Smith out of the Philly trade and Smith would be our 7D, with Chatfield being the first call up.

The only other thing I kind of have a problem with would be the Chicago trade. I highly doubt that Carolina is going to give up Heimosalmi, and while the Canes are more willing to move prospects than picks right now, at the very least for rentals, Heimosalmi is a prospect that the Canes will likely hang on to, as he could be a future Pesce replacement.
Counteroffer for Hagel: Gunler, choice of Suzuki/Bokk, another prospect at B-/C+ range, and conditional 2023 2nd round pick (Conditions: If Carolina advances to the final in 2022 OR Win the Stanley Cup in 2022 or 2023 OR Hagel scores 50+ points with the Canes in 2022, regular season and playoffs combined, the pick upgrades to 2023 1st round pick.) How would Hawks feel about that offer.

Toronto trade is pointless. I'd rather leep lafontaine than the extra D guy.

The Philly trade... Cole and Smith aren't cap dumps. You can bury Smith entirely, and they've been EXCELLENT as a pairing, and rank among the best in the NHL. If you can sneak Smith through waivers and have Cole as the extra over Dermott, I'd rather do that. The rest for Sanhiem is an overpay, but adjust for value. I can appreciate the idea.

Stepan isn't a cap dump. I'd rather keep him if possible, he's been solid.

I'd do that for Hagel.

I'd rather keep Martinook than Paul. Martinook is the better depth guy. Simple as that. Martinook is an alternate captain too...

I'd rather just have more time to sign Paul and let him walk as UFA if I can't get him signed.

Quantity depth pieces don't accomplish anything for Ottawa
