Description
Just to make this clear: I do not think this will happen, but because it was the theme of this rebuild, I was a bit generous with the extensions.

In order to get Chychrun, not only do we have to outbid every other team, but we have to get rid of at least one $5M+ salary (without them retaining 50%). This just ended up being Muzzin because he is the most logical one to get rid of. I do think that he is dealing with an injury (besides the concussion) and will bounce back, so that is why the return is as good as it is.

However, making the swap means not having a true shutdown pair, because while Mayfield is a defensive defenseman, Chychrun is not a shutdown defenseman.

It also might make Sandin expendable, because not only will he not be on the powerplay because of Rielly and Chychrun, but is not that great in the defensive zone. So it is possible that he is moved for a haul, including a big, relatively cheap shutdown man.

    But when it's all said and done it won't be Toronto getting him. Not for lack of value going to Arizona, but for lack of fit in Toronto. Rielly and Sandin are the long term options at LD in the top 4 for them and neither them or Chychrun play the right side and none are spectacular defensively to be a shutdown pair so one would be under utilized.

    Just doesn't make any sense for Toronto to make a deal with Arizona for Chychrun.

    Yeah I definitely agree. I only made this because of recent reports that Dubas was checking in on him. But even though there are a lot of prospects in this trade, they are all pretty relevant. I thought about adding Knies, but I went with what I thought Dubas would do.

    Oilers do need goaltending but they need one that isn’t injury prone and better than the current options mrazek doesn’t fit either of those criteria.
