<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AEcho</b></div><div>SEA declines. SEA isn't moving on from Wright
Additionally, SEA is not in a position to take advantage of Marner as a player. Acquiring Marner means that the team believes they are, at best, 1-2 pieces away from being serious contenders and that they will be able to get them within the next year or two. SEA, is not realistically in that spot as SEA realistically needs long term help on defense and help in goal. Daccord is fine, but SEA is lacking in enough categories that a deal like this just doesn't make a ton of sense.</div></div>
Yeah I definitely somewhat agree with what you're saying, but at the same time, they definitely have some pieces that could make it work, and a Marner trade at the very least gets them into the playoffs next year. The thing with them is they lack a true star, because right now all they have is a plethora of decent wingers and D. Beniers, McCann, and Dunn are probably their only two guys above that tier, so a Marner add could help immensely. If they targeted a guy like Elias Lindholm in FA (and maybe a Brett Pesce too), traded one of Larsson or Oleksiak for either futures or a more impactful guy for their team, they could definitely make damage as early as next year. They also have the prospects to go after a guy like a Linus Ullmark if they wanted to.

Tbh I don’t. But before he came to TOR he was acquired by Tre as a C. If Keefe plans on starting the playoffs with Domi on Matthews’ wing, then it’s either Pontus, Willy or Järnkrok playing 3C, and tbh Järnkrok just seems the most likely of the 3

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TML_Tika</b></div><div>So you are saying that a hockey player who was found innocent in a trial does not deserve a second chance?</div></div>
Tbh I didn't see he was proved innocent. Anyways, it would still probably be bad PR for the Leafs, as there will always be those saying "rich people have an advantage in court" or "no one ever believes survivors", especially with Hockey Canada and that whole fiasco.
On another note, the Leafs don't have a need for him. He won't be cracking the top-9, and he was struggling even before he got bought out, so with all of the time that he has missed, it will be an AHL signing, and the Leafs won't potentially ruin their reputation for an AHL player.

Virtanen does not deserve a second chance. He's lucky that he's not in jail, and especially with what's going on with Hockey Canada, this would be an awful decision.
The Leafs and most other organizations have been actively trying to promote hockey as a sport for everyone (eg. Hayley Wickenheiser), this would be a step in the wrong direction.

I just think he could be moved to A) a non-contender looking for a role model and leadership, or B) a third party team, who then retains and flips him to a potential playoff team with enough space to accommodate. Leafs really wouldn't be getting anything back, at most a 4th.

But McDonagh had injuries too? Didn't he have an upper-body one where he missed a couple weeks? And then he "mangled" his finger in the playoffs, but he still got a pretty damn good return. I know Muzzin's would be NOWHERE near that, but I still doubt that he is a dump.

While I understand that he is not necessarily a fit for NJ, saying that Muzzin isn't good and nobody wants him is just pure wrong. If you saw him in the playoffs you would understand that he is still very much a competent defenseman and is not a cap dump. Yes, injuries were a problem last year, which is one of the reasons he was not very good, but he was also playing with Justin Holl a lot, which did not help his case either.
This is where the media attention really bites the Leafs in the ass, because if he wasn't a Leaf, he'd definitely not be as hated by fans of other teams.
If he is traded, will they get much back? No. The NTC and his age/health concerns do affect that. I could see a 4th, but not much else. However, there are young teams out there who could use a guy like him the next two years to be a leader to their core, as well as be a cost-efficient option to do so (Only $6M owed). There could also be a third team that retains some, and then his value skyrockets because he is not actually awful, he just had a season filled with injuries that scare people when they see his age.

I hope you see why we want to keep him and not give him away for a UFA in 1 (ONE) year???
Terrible trade.</div></div>
I feel like it's very obvious that EDM has been trying to move Puljujärvi, and he wants out. I haven't really paid TOO much attention to EDM and their games, but it seems like fans are 50/50 on him being moved, and the team itself has already sort of moved on. It believe I have also seen that EDM is disappointed in the lack of interest for Puljujärvi, so it's not like the price will be astronomically high.
And again, Holl isn't an AHL defenseman, he improved towards the end of the year and was actually pretty damn good in the playoffs, it just seems that Leafs fans (somewhatmmyself included) have moved on. Even the past 2 years before this one, he was pretty good as a shutdown guy with Muzzin, who could also take some credit for how bad Holl looked this year.
I actually agree with your stance on not trading him, but I think if he were, this would be a decent starting point at the very least.

Robertson has been hurt, but he has still shown that he is an NHLer. Also, even without him/Knies/Niemela, this trade is still very good value, especially if it is only for Tkachuk. You're getting a p/g winger for MUCH cheaper than Tkachuk, a great young defenseman, a 50-point versatile two-way guy, a cheap RHD, AND a first. It's not like the rest of the trade is scraps.

And Holl is an AHL d-man that takes up cap space..
You should keep Kerfoot if he is that good. In fact all you leafs fans should stop trying to dump him and the other 2 players.
Oilers have what 60K in cap space and nobody wants Foggle.</div></div>
They aren't being "dumped" because they are bad, they are because they don't really have a place on the team anymore. EDM has more money to spend across their team than TOR because they have better contracts than the Leafs.
Muzzin's $5.6M won't do well, especially when we have Sandin ready to take his spot. Holl doesn't really have chemistry with this team anymore, but he would still be decent in bottom-4 shutdown minutes. You guys already have Nurse and Bouchard, so you don't need Barrie anymore, especially when he doesn't provide anything defensively. Holl is cheap, and with what RHD have been going for (Jones, Gudbranson, etc.), this great value. Also, Kerfoot isn't being shopped around because he is bad, he is because he is making a bit too much against the cap and we can find similar production elsewhere (Puljujärvi). While Kerfoot may not have much of a shot, he is coming off of a career year where he had 50 points, played both centre and the wing, and was a VERY good asset on one of the league's top penalty kill units. He will be a great fit with EDM in a top-9 role, and he makes everyone he plays with better.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>kster34</b></div><div>I don’t get the obsession on 3rd vs 4th lines ; best case (like the Leafs & Oilers) top 2 lines carry the offense (some teams have better versions than others). 3rd and 4th are equal imo - one more defensive, hard to play against and one more offensive / energy but they both get the same # minutes, so Kampf line more defensive and Gaudette (other?) line more energy</div></div>
Keefe normally plays the 4th line under 10 minutes, with the 3rd being around 12-13, depending on the situations. Obviously, Kampf is going to be playing the bulk of the PK and shutdown minutes, but he is not the guy you want starting on their side of the red line. Engvall-Kampf-Kube is the perfect 4th line because while they are great in their own end, they will run the opponents crazy in their's, and they will get not-so-pretty "playoff style" goals because of it. Also, if the 3rd line is more of a scoring threat, then we won't have to rely on the top-6 to do all of the scoring, which is what has been the downfall of the Leafs in the playoffs the past few years. Even this year, the only goals from the bottom-6 off the top of my head were from Kampf (2), Mikheyev (2 EN), and Spezza (1).
Not to mention when EDM was relying only on their top guys this year, they sucked and Tippett got fired.

The thing is I doubt Dubas makes a deal for a top-6 guy. If Keefe wants to keep playing Kampf as 3C, then that means Engvall and Jarnkrok are his linemates by default, pretty much locking up the top-9. Ideally, the 4th line is Engvall-Kampf-Aube-Kubel, letting the 3rd line be more of a scoring threat and creating another spot for a guy like Puljujärvi. However, then 3C is a bit sketchy, especially if they view Jarnkrok as a winger, which is fine, but he has shown he is a decent centre. We'll have to see I guess, but ideally we can get a lefty that can use his body and take draws decently well (Donato, Frederic, Eller with retention, etc.), but there aren't many options left.

Bemström wouldn't be that bad, I just A) don't see CBJ moving on from him so quickly and B) Dubas willing to give up the assets required before he has shown he can be a consistent scorer at the NHL level. However, the other two you mentioned probably don't have a spot on this team.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HeroStuff</b></div><div>I like the explanations and your right about the depth scoring, I think the contracts are inaccurate tho, I would expect Strome to be more likely to get a 1 year deal for cheaper, and pulujarvi likely on a shorter term deal as well. Both would be useful adds.
Disagree that Miller would be the type of guy the leafs would look to if they trade Muzzin they'd probably want someone who could replace a bit of his shutdown or physical capabilities.
The goaltending is really the one that I disagree with. Platoon is too risky, especially after seeing what happened last season. They need to get a starter who can play 50 games. If you bridge Sandin for two years, and give shorter term contracts for pulujarvi and Strome, you could afford a actual #1</div></div>
My only thing is Lankinen and Comrie have shown glimpses of being a #1 goalie. They're relatively young (Lank 27, Comrie 26) and at least to start the season, they could be good options. If there is an obvious need after a few months, then a trade can be made.
Also, I think that signing Strome and Puljujärvi to multiple years can prove beneficial for both of them, as I can't see them making much more in the future. This also gives the Leafs security going forward, not having to worry about resigning them along with the core 4.
