If the Leafs got the 5th overall pick alone for Marner that would be good value.

Top 5 picks are super valuable in the NHL and don’t get traded. Like ever. Like never ever.

Teams tank whole seasons to get a top 5 pick. A top 5 pick is supposed to be a cornerstone piece of that franchise for the next 8-10 years. Top 5 picks also increase ticket sales, jersey sales, etc.

If CBJ traded that 5th pick overall. They wouldn’t add much more for Marner. And maybe nothing.

And they might not even trade the 5th overall pick for Marner straight up. Maybe this years draft b/c it isn’t a top heavy draft. But I’d be super surprised if any top 5 picks got traded.

Like I said, top 5 picks are so valuable. In any sport. They just don’t get traded.

So much of this is a mess but the Arizona and Anaheim trades are way off the mark, no chance either of them make those deals and no chance the Jackets make that trade either.

Sorry, Marner for the 5th overall straight up. You would have a better chance winning Lotto Max. 5th in league scoring. If he played the last game this year, he would have lead the league in ice time for forwards 2 years in a row. Matthews, Tavares and Kadri all had career seasons in goals once Marner played on their line. He's also the youngest player in NHL history to reach 200 assists. The leafs aren't trading him no matter what people think.
