Interesting. Good thought exercise. I don't think the Leafs are so interested in Alex Nylander they'd be willing to give up all that though. Seattle will have an excellent opportunity to do 50% retentions on players who teams would then be very willing to pay for. Vegas hesitated to do those types of deals but I don't think the available talent for Seattle is going to be as strong (GM's have probably learned their lessons...... unlikely). So retaining and ransoming off some players would be a) great entertainment and b) a great way to build a team that can compete in 3-5 years once those retentions are gone.
I also think more teams will be willing to attach picks to dump contracts. I bet you the Islanders offer you something to take a bad deal, and perhaps Edmonton and Calgary as well. I could see Vancouver wanting you to take Loui Ericsson.
