The Flyers take that!!!!
To be fair, the players are similar in age, salary (Risto is 900k more), contract (Ghost is 1 more year). Both are playing well this year. 2 years ago, BUF would be adding the 1st rounder. Through injuries and team depth, Ghost has fallen down the roster, but hes just two years removed from a 60+ pt season. Even in the last 2 bad years where Ghost has been injured, he still has a 40+ pt season average.
BUF needs a LD and PHI needs a RD.
AT this point, even though Ghost has played solid since rejoining team after COVID, Risto is the better player, but most BUF fans up to this year would have had enough of him and his regular gaffs. Risto looks great this year, but BUF even floundering is under pressure to make playoffs with Eichel and Hall having one foot out the door. BUF has Joki and Dahlin in the long term, with McCabe playing solidly on LD. Can Risto continue his solid play? I don't know, but its not a move that screams tearing it down for BUF more than getting a more potent offensive weapon (albeit a 2nd pairing for a 1st pairing guy) and changing things up.
The gap between the two players is wide, but is it more than a 1st rounder wide? Maybe. (But if it was a likely 10th-15th overall, and not 21st-30th, that's pretty close). Maybe PHI adds a 2nd or 3rd or solid forward prospect like Isaac Ratcliffe.
