Description

TB's real problem is twofold....
signing Cirelli & Sergachev now, and
losing one of Cirelli or Point in 2021 to Seattle expansion (they have too many (6) players currently under NMC/NTC/M-NTC clauses)
Stamkos has had some recent injury issues, and at 30 with 4 years remaining, this may be the most feasible/best solution for TB.
He has meant a lot to the organization but has not yet reached "franchise" status like Crosby in Pittsburgh or Ovi in Washington (IMO)

Agreed, but the 2 year bridge on Cirelli & Sergachev buys time. The Seattle expansion will help if they can move one of the NMC's of Killorn, Gourde, Palat or Johnson.
Otherwise, waive one of them like they just tried to do with Johnson recently.
Once the cap crunch is past in 2021, and salary cap (most likely) goes up, there will be a team that would take one of these players for nothing other than their contract value.
They are just kicking the can down the road and buying some time, as best they can with all of the adverse contracts they have to deal with.
