If they did do it though, there'd have to be SIGNIFICANT futures coming back to the Leafs. Sure, you can say "Toews and Kane have proven to be superstars, they're better", but the years of term remaining on Nylander and Marner's contract would need to be compensated. You're looking at 6 combined years between Toews and Kane, compared to 10 combined years of Marner and Nylander (plus first dibs on their extensions). Marner is signed for 5 more years and Nylander is signed for 4 more years.
The package to get them would probably start with the addition of 3 firsts and your two best prospects on top of Kane and Toews.
