-June 26: Phase 1 of Draft Lottery-it is revealed that a playoff team will have the 1st overall pick. Now that the 1st pick is up for grabs in the qualifiers, more people will watch them, which gives the NHL more money.
-August 1-4: The Rangers play like they don’t care and get swept 3-0 in the series.
-Today: The Rangers get the 1st overall pick. One word: MONEY. Bettman told the Rangers to not try so they can get the 1st overall pick. The NHL needs to get as much money back as possible because of the pandemic, and they do this by giving the Rangers the 1st pick. The Rangers have the largest market in the league, and now the NHL can get the most money possible.

I’m sorry Rangers fans, it can’t be more obvious.

Well yes but no.

I do believe the NHL finds a way to give the big market teams 1OA. But I don’t think the Rangers purposely got swept.

Trust me I’m salty either way as I think the layout where a team can only jump 5 spots was a good compromise for the lottery.

Honestly i had a feeling the rangers were gonna get it other than the leafs, penguins. and Oilers. It was all right in plain sight. Laf jersey sales from either of these teams would stabilize the NHL and make their cap situation change for the better.

rangers and toronto both make a tonne of money with the rangers making slightly more so it made sense for Laf to go there.
