First of all, I highly doubt MTL finishes last or in a position where their odds of winning the draft lottery are high. But since this is ACGM, let's have fun and speculate that MTL miss the playoffs by whatever amount of points and miraculously win the draft lottery.
Welcome Alexis Lafreniere!
Secondly, I'm fairly confident that if MTL miss the playoffs... again... Marc Bergevin gets fired. He will not be given a 4th chance to fix his f**%-ups.
Thirdly, players I have placed in the LTIR section are not injured. They are the players that would be traded at the trade deadline if MTL have a crap 2019 season, or during the 2020 offseason if the Habs marginally miss the playoffs. I'm not doing "actual" trades for these players as they would only be for picks and prospects, use your imagination on what you think they'd get...
Fourthly, the trade I'm "actually" attempting on here is moving Drouin. The reason for this is if MTL have a crap season / miss the playoffs kind of year, Drouin would be 99% taking most of the blame for the teams shortcomings, since it would be his 3rd season with the team having not accomplished much, and unrealistic expectations given to him by both the fanbase AND the organization. There must always be "that guy" that people love to blame. Drouin is that guy for MTL. Because of another lackluster season, His value would be diminished to the point where almost all Habs fans would not be happy with what the return would be, but... you know...c'est la vie...
Fifthly (is that even a real word?), guys like Price, Weber, and Byron will not be traded for any kind of rebuild. They will be used as the veteran presence and help insulate a young team. Their contract will a secondary purpose to stay above the cap floor during the rebuilding years as well. Someone like Gallagher will also be included in this group, but would need a contract extension, if an agreement cannot be made, he will be put on the 2020-21 season trade block. Same for Danault.
I don’t think MB is getting fired. I think he had a good year as a GM last year, even though MTL missed the playoffs
I disagree. Bergevin said last season that the goal was to make the playoffs. They failed at that. The leeway given to him was due to the prospect pool he managed to build up in such a short time span which, granted, is pretty incredible considering 2 years ago everyone, including Habs fans, were saying MTL had one of the weakest prospect pools in the the NHL.
The goal this season is to make the playoffs again. He said it himself. Same as the owner. He won't really have the "hey look at the prospect pool I've built" card when it's already one of the top 5 prospect pools in the NHL. No playoffs again would mean no playoffs 4 out of the last 5 years. He won't survive that.
Hate the description, love the title (though not when applying to the Canadiens).
I did go a lot harsher than usual didn't I? lol
but if the Habs 2019 season does go up in flames (fingers crossed it doesn't), I don't think it's an unrealistic scenario.... and it still gives MTL Lafreniere (YAY!)
