Ghost will cost a lot. plain and simple. I don't buy the Shaw and Byron rumors, and honestly, both those guys are what makes the Habs so deep on the wing. I just don't see a scenario where PHI doesn't ask for 15th overall, to start, without hanging up the phone.
I have no interest in "losing" a 1st rd pick in this draft. It's too deep when it comes to defensemen that fits the Habs needs. So the Ghost deal doesn't happen unless I can get another 1st elsewhere. So I traded for one with NSH, and I really, really ,really want Tolvanen. Drouin would be the high price to give for him and the first. NSH continue to look to add offense, but their cap situation is getting tight. Drouin checks both those boxes.
But I also have zero interest in moving Drouin, unless MTL can sign Duchene to take up his spot in the top 6.
Also, since I moved Mete. I need to go acquire another LD. I've always been a fan of Zadorov and his untapped potential (he could literally be another Weber that plays the left side, big body with a booming shot). I never liked the idea of moving Lehkonen, but since I'm keeping Byron and Shaw, including Tolvanen in my lineup, and still have the kids waiting for a call up (Poehling, Suzuki, Teasdale, Evans), along with guys like Weal and Byron who are overqualified on the 4th line. Lehkonen is expendable.
All this with still plenty of cap to sign and keep everyone next season.
If the price for Ghost is the 15th OA and Mete, then the price is too high.
I agree, but the defense Habs would have now (and for the next few years) would be better than for the amount of time it would take for Mete to get to Ghost's level (if he gets there at all)

trading mete and 15th for Ghost is a LATERAL move, Mete is getting better and better.....
Perhaps in the long run, yes. Ghost is basically what Habs fans hope Mete can become (but there's still no guarantee that he will). As for the 15th overall, as long as MTL can get another 1st for this draft, I think Habs could use it for help now, and Ghost is still young, it's not like Habs would be wasting the 1st for a few good years of Leddy...
