I think LA can find similar caliber goaltending from Forsberg in the free agency.

Unwanted for unwanted
It's easier to bank on a 25 year old PLD improving next season, 30 year-old Huberdeau at $2+M having two bad seasons strung together.
Also keep in mind, LA made this trade because they need a top-6 C, if they take a loss on PLD it will be for another struggling center.

Graves and Jarry both have horribly underperformed this season, this is a lot to give up for guys who probably should have retention.

Ryan Graves with no retention after his poor play this season won't work for cap-strapped teams.

LA needs Danault, and LA has Portillo who has played just as well as Knight in the AHL (a lot cheaper to boot)

Not disagreeing, but which teams do you think have an extra $11M for Marner. The Kings need to sign so many other people before looking into offensive additions.

Probably correct, but he's 34 and still signed for more years. It's a risk and LA isn't as desperate at goal as they were last season.

LA needs to reup Byfield and sign two goaltenders, they don't have this type of disposable cap space.

Either way, Kempe has been a model player for LA and putting up 40 goals last season, 75 points this season and one of the Kings strongest playoff performers.

I completely disagree, PLD would hit over $4M for multiple years against the cap. That is money that needs to be used to find Kopitars replacement. PLD has played as a replacement for Danault and Kopitar, he has either scored or netted an assist as a positive player both times. He's really not as bad as he was when he started, people just like crapping on the guy. I think he'll be a 60 point player next season, which isn't amazing, but it's about as expected.

PLD isn't getting bought out, he's likely an overpaid top-6 center, but in a few years it will be fine. Give the guy some capable wingers and his contract wont look so awful, his teammates are a rookie and a guy who has been injured most of the season.

It's not happening, the Kings are too good even without Kopitar and Doughty that they would be mid-tier. The kIngs just need to hope PLD bounces back like he did after his first season with the Jets.
The Kings have made the playoffs 3 years in a row, it's not totally their fault that they get killed by Edmonton, they are not exactly a weak team.

Nah I'd rather have 2 seasons of Kempe than 1 of Marner, especially when LA needs that cap space.

PLD is not going to be traded for other bad contracts, Kings need a top-6 C, he looks fine when actually slotted with top-6 NHLers.
If this trade was made, Blake would be gone in a heartbeat, and LA would basically be rebuilding, which means move Kopitar, Doughty, everyone.

Tristan isn't LAs guy, he hasn't been great statistically to take on his full term, LA has his old goalie coach who was fired for his lack of production, and he's too costly for what he is.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>Lets clarify something. Hellebuyck and Demko are going to be #1 and #2 in Vezina voting. After that it will be something like Oettinger or Shesterkin simply due to to the teams success. But Markstrom has had for the most part an excellent season and will absolutely get Vezina votes. Not a finalist but probably 5th to 7th in voting.
Money Puck and Evolving Hockey use 2 different methods for xG. Evolving Hockey uses Fenwick (includes missed shots) as it's base and Money Puck only uses Shots on Goal. Until about the last month of the season Markstrom was ~4th on MP and 2nd on EH. The TDL rumours along with the complete downgrade of defensive play in front of him tanked his numbers quite a lot</div></div>
Fair enough, let's wait and see. but my real point was Markstrom is a 34 year old goalie who hasn't waived his NMC (also why would he to one of the highest tax rates in a a tough division) add to this that the Kings have for under $2M done fairly well with budget goaltending.
If LA did pay big pieces for an upgrade at goal to me it looks like Saros (or Ullmark if he changes his mind) are the only ones who makes sense as legitimate goaltending upgrades. But if it costs LA Roy reupping or a solid LD3, is getting an upgrade at goal really make the Kings a contender? Gibson and Markstrom are exceptional goalies, but the realistic asking price for these guys along with there age make them less than stellar trade targets for most teams with goalie issues.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Ledge_And_Dairy</b></div><div>LMAO your entire argument is SV%? How do you expect a goalie to have a high SV% when they are bombarded with high danger shots every game? There is a reason Markstrom finished the season with almost 29 Goals Saved Above Expected and Talbot finished with 15. Hell even Rittich was better than Talbot when he played
<img class="for_img" src="https://i.imgur.com/vIzI6M4.png" alt="vIzI6M4.png"></div></div>
Maybe my numbers here are wrong, but on Moneypuck I see Markstrom as 9th. Is this all situations?
And although GSVx is typically a great indicator of how well the goaltender has done, can you name a Vezina finalist who has had a below a .910SV%. Like Jusse Saros would be the best comparable with the highest GSAx and 4th in Vezina voting last season, but he also had a .919 SV% and 2.69GAA.
I'll eat crow if Markstrom gets a single Vezina vote, but that's a bold statement in my opinion and an interesting hill to die on.

At1/6th of Markstrom's cap hit, I think Talbot getting an all-star nod and shoring up LAs goaltending after their abysmal goaltending last season is incredibly impressive.
And are you crazy about Vezina votes, last season Igor Shesterkin got 2 votes with a 0.916 SV%, Markstrom had a .892 SV%. Do you think anyone seriously would risk their credentials to give Markstrom a Vezina vote this season?

I actually find the delusion in people who think Markstrom has value at age 34, has a full NMC to dictate where he can go, and has been a meh ~.900 SV% goaltender for the last few seasons is worth a $6M cap hit and big assets. The Kings have been able to get better goaltending from guys worth $1M or less this season statistically.
