Islanders top two players are Barzal and Dobson. Add in Horvat as third. Does the above trade on value start a conversation in one sense yes based on value of players but that is where is end. The Isles are an aging team and when they look to retool the 3 players guaranteed to stay in hopes of a retool instead of a rebuild is Barzal, Dobson and Horvat so while on value I get the trade. Dobson is as close to an untouchable as their is.

Is 1 year left at $6m for a perennial 30 goal scorer really a terrible contract that they need to be “let out of”?

Draft Celebrini Then Playoff Team
I'd have to imagine you're picking either Celebrini or Dobson, because NYI aren't moving him for less than a top-5 pick, if that. Arguably a top-10 defenseman in the league, only 24, and on a great deal for another year for a playoff team that wants to continue competing next year as well.

Draft Celebrini Then Playoff Team
That wouldn’t be enough to get Dobson imo. If they made him available, and I don’t think they will, then they will want a Seth Jones level return. Preferably from a team that thinks they are ready to take the next step regardless of the fact they aren’t.

Plus Romanov in many regards has declined since leaving MTL in most regards with exception to 8-9 points a season more</div></div>
Legitimately curious what you are basing that on. First - 8-9 points per season might not be a lot for a top-6 forward, but Romanov has gone from scoring 0.14 pts/game with Montreal to 0.28 with the Isles - literally doubling his scoring output. That's a pretty significant step towards being an all-around top-4 guy.
The team's 5v5 numbers with him have been excellent too - his two seasons with the Isles, New York's outscored the opposition 117-96 (the Habs were outscored 99-88 during his tenure in the same 5v5 situations.) He's committing less penalties, he's had less giveaways, and he's blocking shots at basically the same rate. I just don't know how you can look at what he's done the past 2 years in New York and argue that he's declined compared to his time in Montreal.

Becoming A Cup Contender
I don't see why the Islanders do that. Glass is essentially a bust, Fabbro is just a worse version of Pulock and Livingstone is just an AHL inbetweener. The only valuable asset here is the 2nd and they could probably grab a late 1st + a B+ prospect

Easy no from the Islanders
Any Pulock trade would include:
1st
3rd/roster player of same value
A goos prospect

Nelson for Dubois. I wonder how fast NY declines that deal.
My assumption is Buffalo also says no quickly though Spence is appealing

So his value, at 23 yrs old with 200+ NHL games, is his potential?

post draft retool
Palms isn't a negative asset in the sense of him costing a pick to dump. He might only get FC but I honestly think we can get a 3rd or 4th for him. Also Mike Riley doesn't get that much

What will an extension for Shane Pinto look like
With the way the cap is moving and how highly I value Pinto, I would say 8 years probably looks like 7x8 because it will be his only big deal throughout his prime and the Ottawa tax. Good point about him not being traded, but if you do.... lol

He's looked really good, but still a lot to prove with his injury/suspension he's missed a lot of games.
They'll bridge him 2 years at 4 - 4.5 million a season.

Not OP but just lose the retention on Zadina, this is a 25 man roster so with 2 less players it easily fits.

If Mayfield goes on LTIR
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jded</b></div><div>I know his linemates aren’t doing him any favors, but he starts half his shifts in the offensive zone and has like 6 points this year. And his advanced stats are horrendous</div></div>
When you start looking at his WOWY stats at 5v5, I feel like you can start seeing hope for him as an offensive force. Since the beginning of 2021-22, he's played almost identical amounts at 5v5 with Barzal as his center (539:49) and Pageau (519:27.) With Barzal, the Isles control 50.7% of the chances and have outscored their opponents 22-14; with Pageau he's down to 43.4% of the chances and only a 20-19 GF/GA. Numbers get worse when you look at the 100+ minutes he's inexplicably spent on Casey Cizikas' wing in that time.
It really comes down to not trying to fit his square peg into a round hole - if you accept the fact that he's going to occasionally have a defensive issue, I think you're gonna wind up with a very good offense-first winger.
