Nice. CBJ would be 2/3 the way to a chili line.
All that would be left to do would be to trade Montreal and get Riley Kidney.........then put Pinto, Kidney and Bean on the same line.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockey_Soul</b></div><div>No, it's misinformed speculation based on very, very limited information. There's absolutely no substance to it.
The issues reported in WPG were outright said to be from Wheeler and Maurice both being overly hard on Laine. The only thing Scheifele ever did was not defend Laine, which was fair because Laine didn't defend on the ice and is what was causing the whole confrontation. It's ridiculous to think that two professional athletes would hold a petty grudge towards each other over one of them simply being coached and confronted by his captain about his play, and the other player not stepping in to defend him (when it was not even warranted).</div></div>
Not to mention there are plenty of other reasons not to want Scheifele in Columbus. My own distaste for trading for him isn't related to Laine at all.

He needs Defensman not Forwards who play on the back end
Boqvist is great but if he refuses to play Defense after all this time in the Pro's
Chances are he'll never change and best you can do is disguise it like we did with Petry by hiding him behind a True Undisputed #1 RD

Playoffs 2324
Fun new idea that's not the same 2-3 (rightfully) regurgitated things we always see on here for CBJ, but I think there's some issues.
Biggest issue is that by giving away 3rd ovr and not getting a center back in the deal, you're basically banking on Kent Johnson HAVING to develop into a top line center in the next year or 2. Maybe that happens, but as things stand right now, it's looking like they may have him as a winger moving forward. As the team stands right now, This center depth is just not good enough, both now and for the future unless you get a 1C out of KJ. So...that being said, I don't think the Karlsson deal makes much sense for the team. Adding onto that point, Jiricek is on his way and they've already signed Severson. Possibly as soon as this year, but definitely by next you have at least a solid, if not good top 4 blue line. There's simply not a need for Karlsson considering Jiricek and the excess of RD they have currently. The value of the trade is hard to add up since you have the Gru contract going back, a ton of retention for 4 years, and all the pieces, but I'm inclined to say it's a bit rich to give up 3rd ovr + 2 more firsts (Ceulemans was 25th in '21) for Karlsson, even with the massive retention .
The Saros trade, I would say that yeah, that's probably about fair value when you add everything up (possibly a bit short), but if you're a team moving a player of his level you need a better top piece in a package than a 1st that's a year out (and is probably in the 12-22 range). I'm not familiar enough with Nashville's prospect pool to know what specifically they may want, but that's definitely gotta have a better main piece in the package for it to happen. That being said though, I do REALLY like the idea of a Saros trade, should Nashville decide to explore a trade for him (though I think it may take some convincing to get them to take the Elvis deal back.
Bertuzzi will cost a bit more per year, but you can fit that deal in by not signing Cole (who I think is redundant and I'd rather have Bean or a non traded Blankenburg in there anyway tbh). Team doesn't necessarily need a signing like that, but I wouldn't complain if it did happen.

Not even gonna comment on the majorly lopsided trade lol
Saying the expansion draft rules sucked for everyone but VGK is revisionist history. Coming out of it, the popular opinion was that they botched it a bit. And the teams that gave them these good deals for considerations only have themselves to blame. Florida protecting a guy that's done nothing for them and losing 2 top 6 wingets for it isn't the rules, its them making a bad decision. Same for other teams like CBJ.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Garak</b></div><div>I pay more attention to prospects around the league more than most people. CHI still declines, though.</div></div>
Obviously Chicago declines. The optics around trading the Bedard pick make it impossible, regardless of which team ended up getting it. Everyone knows that. The point clearly wasn't about if Chicago WOULD make the trade though, it was about value like the title of the thread says.

This offer would be about as good an offer they could receive and really, it's not close. It can't be done.
The type of talent Bedard has isn't tradable anymore, the team trading him would get destroyed by it's fan base for it, the team acquiring would get the same for giving up so much high end assets for 1 player.
As a CBJ fan I couldn't do this trade, those pieces have been the result of years worth of suffering and they are/will be HIGH end talent players, those 6 players can't be replaced by 1 guy.

Who says no
Canucks say no. Pick 3 isn’t enough to convince Vancouver to move Pettersson. Carlsson’s ceiling is probably at or slightly above what Pettersson is, so there’s no real benefit to trading a proven and developed Petey for a guy that will at best be very similar to him, but who also has the chance to be a total bust. Too big a risk to take for Van.

The Year Things Should Be Rolling
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bricher33</b></div><div>This is why i keep telling people we need to just draft our picks this year and be patient. We are young dumb and full of ..... spirit. Plus we have makarov and Dolzhenkov coming over the next 2 years. Plus with 22 and 34OA this year theres a chance we could get Simashev and/or But. Patience is a virtue for the jackets fans right now.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dk325</b></div><div>It's definitely a questionable thought process to be trading away picks from 2023. I feel like this is the last draft where they should really be using all the draft capital they have to stock the cupboard and then picks for 2024 and beyond are what they should gamble on bringing in aid where they need it.</div></div>
I'll be surprised if either of Makarov or Dolzhenkov become NHLers. If they do it's certainly not going to be in the next 2 years.
Making smart moves is important, and I'm not saying we should be selling the farm, but the CBJ are closer than you think. This team has a lot of talent and should be trying to compete for a playoff spot right now. The cupboard is already stocked and overflowing. They have a surplus of young assets, and some of those should be used to upgrade on defense. I don't want them to trade away all their picks, but the extras should definitely be used to get better now so we're not wasting years of Werenski, Gaudreau, Laine, Jenner.
3OA is off limits because we HAVE to get a franchise centerman there, but the 22OA pick and the surplus 3rds should absolutely be in play, as well as a few prospects in the system. I really like Ceulemans and Mateychuk, but they're not guaranteed to be studs in the NHL. Same with Dumais, even Sillinger and Chinakhov. Again, I don't want to sell off all these guys, but if one or two can be included in a package that bring in a mid-age, legit impact top-4 defenseman or 1C, then I think we'd be foolish to turn that down.

one fell swoop
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HockeyIsMyPassion61</b></div><div>Karlsson is massively overpaid for his production, And there's no reason for Martinez to waive for a team that's in the Connor Bedard sweepstakes.</div></div>
William Karlsson this year: 14-39–53, 17:28 TOI/GP, +14
Recent free agent centers:
Andrew Copp: 21-32–53, 19:11 TOI/GP, +15 -- $5.6m x 5 years
Ryan Strome: 21-33–54, 18:19 TOI/GP, +15, -- $5m x 5 years
Vincent Trocheck: 21-30–51, 17:52 TOI/GP, +21, $5.6m x 7 years
Extremely similar production (and Karlsson is less of a PP threat than those guys, too) – Karlsson has a slightly higher AAV but doesn't have the long term. No, he hasn't lived up to his 40-goal season, but he's paid appropriately as a 2C on a team that has two better options (Eichel and Stephenson), so he's a luxury.
As for Martinez, he has a 12-team NTC that slides to an 8-team NTC this summer. Most players use 7 of those slots on the Canadian teams. I'd wager that Arizona, Anaheim and Chicago are pretty common on those lists nowadays, too. Depending on the timing, it may not even be up to him, but if it is, Columbus may not even be on his list given that he played college hockey in Ohio.

Bigger on the Left Side
"Peeke has a really nice contract for a shutdown RHD who can stay healthy all year and can really be a rock for Werenski to rely on on his right side."
I'll d*e on this hill: Peeke is Gudbranson-lite. He gets caved in and his physicality is wildly misplaced most of the time. He's always out of position, looks lost, and flails around trying to make hits that don't make sense. I'd move him to the first GM that thinks he's worth a 3rd or higher, and keep Boqvist who at least can move the puck (and pray he stays healthy). Blanks can be our fan-favorite 7th-D.
"Danforth - Voronkov - Chinakhov for a couple months in the A to get Voronkov ready to step into the big league." -> I love this idea!
"Pick #2: Either Leo Carlsson or Adam Fantilli." -> If we can stay in the top-3 and pick one of these two, it's an absolute win and I won't complain. Pipe dream is Bedard, ideal is Fantilli at #2, win is Carlsson at #3, heart attack is someone picks Michkov at #3 and we get Carlsson at #4, pain is Bedard, Fantilli, and Carlsson are all gone by the time we pick 4th.
If Graves is actually left to walk, I'd absolutely push for him at 5x$5M, but I doubt NJ lets him go or that he comes that cheap. Pettersson isn't likely going anywhere (I'd hate to trade with the Pens anyway), so Mikkola would be fine...as long as he's not on the 2nd pair. Jarmo might have to get creative for LD.

We can probably get a UFA at about that same price and term without giving up any assets.

There are also other trade options that would be fine for the middle pair LD at a cheaper cost.</div></div>
Try s problem is you have to Convince UFAs to come to Columbus. Sure gaudreau did but most players have different priorities.sure I’d like graves but he has 31 other teams to choose from.

may as well say any Q player has 0 value with the awful defense and goalies of the Q. Inflated numbers. Yes even Dumais.
Vadim Shipachyov was a constant ppg+ player in the KHL, what the **** did he do here. You never know someone's current value will turn out until they actually play/played NHL games (again in this case)

Adam Fantilli - 2023 Offseason
I'd be pretty happy with this for CBJ. The EDM trade is more or less FMV for Gavvy (though I don't think they move Mathieu - CBJ love their B6 Tuff Bois).
The MTL trade is interesting. Boqvist's value is likely around a high 2nd or so, IMO. He's got a lot of offense to his game, but not much D, which is what CBJ need on our blue-line right now. MM could slot in as a Gavvy replacement for a year or two while Mateychuk and Svozil develop.
And Matheson's <a href="https://twitter.com/JFreshHockey/status/1548389741694894085" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">underlying numbers</a> are <a href="https://cdn.theathletic.com/app/uploads/2023/01/13122416/Screenshot-2023-02-13-at-11.58.47-AM.png" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" target="_blank">pretty solid.</a>
