Jesus these trades are awful.

Kings aren't going to trade Clifford if all that's coming back is a 7th round pick. He's the unsung hero of the team and he's a coach and teammate favorite. If someone wanted him as a throw in on a bigger trade, I could see the Kings considering it, but they're not just going to give him away.

Fantenberg and Lovejoy are both UFAs at the end of this season. With neither team likely to make the playoffs, why would either team do this?

Thompson is worth more than a 7th to a team looking to improve their PK and faceoff prowess. I would say a 4th is more likely.

Burakovsky is 3 years older than Kempe, not as good, and will require a qualifying offer of $3¼ million to prevent him from becoming a UFA at the end of the season. The Kings want to have nothing to do with his contract, let alone give up a quality young player for him.

Trevor Lewis is the same as Kyle Clifford. Coach/player favorite. Voted unsung hero on the team every year. The Kings won't give him away unless there's something good coming back.

Kings won't trade away a 1st round pick in this draft. Hayes is a quality player, but he's a UFA at the end of the season. If the Kings really wanted him, they'd just wait until the offseason and make him an offer.

The Arizona trade is the worst one yet. If the Kings are trying to get younger and faster. Why would they trade away one of their fastest players and one of their youngest quality prospects for an undrafted 22 year old that's not even producing in the AHL.

The Ottawa trade is fine I guess. Ceci isn't that good though. I think they'd rather just give the spot to a young defenseman like Walker that's already in the system rather than pay an overrated defenseman $4.3M.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>thilk</b></div><div>this is not necessarily on you, but i keep seeing people trading clifford for smith pelly and its absolutely not happening and i dont understand why people A. think its a good trade B. the reasoning behind it. theres 2 problems with it:

1. Kings will never trade Clifford. Hes been on the big club since he was 19 and hes still only 27 right now. They drafted him because his attitude and motor are what they wanted to see out of every player on their team. you would be hard pressed to find a 4th liner that an NHL team values more than the Kings and Clifford.

2nd. If they were to trade clifford it would be for something that any GM would be fired for (ex. a top line winger for cliffy and a 4th rounder which would never happen). Clifford would never be traded for a bottom 6 winger ESPECIALLY when Clifford is better than Smith-Pelly. Hes better in just about every aspect of the game so why would you want to get worse? The Kings dont need to shed 600k that badly.

Again, its not necessarily your fault as many people on here saw whoever posted it first and used it too. Bottom line, he aint going anywhere anyone close to the Kings will tell you that</div></div>

I'm pretty sure I started it and I understand where you are coming from, however, my reasoning for Smith-Pelly is because he is a playoff player. His magic comes in the playoffs. You're going to get physicality and responsibility with him all season long just like Clifford. He's a grinder, I love his game. I love Clifford too, but maybe trading Clifford is what it's going to take to shake up and wake up the Kings and get our top players off their high horses and realize if they don't start performing they are going to get traded too.
