Except he didn't present it as "Carter's camp said this." Watch the video. He just said that Carter's case was interesting in the sense that if he didn't like his trade destination he could potentially threaten to retire as a form of no-trade protection, since the Kings would then be crippled by recapture penalties.

So the Kings give up three of their best players and three 1st round picks to dump Phaneuf's contract and acquire a 2nd pairing defensemen?
I want some of whatever you're smoking.

If you want the Kings to retain that much salary, I think they'd expect back a prospect as well. Maybe someone like Appleton.

Make LA great again
Jesus these trades are awful.
Kings aren't going to trade Clifford if all that's coming back is a 7th round pick. He's the unsung hero of the team and he's a coach and teammate favorite. If someone wanted him as a throw in on a bigger trade, I could see the Kings considering it, but they're not just going to give him away.
Fantenberg and Lovejoy are both UFAs at the end of this season. With neither team likely to make the playoffs, why would either team do this?
Thompson is worth more than a 7th to a team looking to improve their PK and faceoff prowess. I would say a 4th is more likely.
Burakovsky is 3 years older than Kempe, not as good, and will require a qualifying offer of $3¼ million to prevent him from becoming a UFA at the end of the season. The Kings want to have nothing to do with his contract, let alone give up a quality young player for him.
Trevor Lewis is the same as Kyle Clifford. Coach/player favorite. Voted unsung hero on the team every year. The Kings won't give him away unless there's something good coming back.
Kings won't trade away a 1st round pick in this draft. Hayes is a quality player, but he's a UFA at the end of the season. If the Kings really wanted him, they'd just wait until the offseason and make him an offer.
The Arizona trade is the worst one yet. If the Kings are trying to get younger and faster. Why would they trade away one of their fastest players and one of their youngest quality prospects for an undrafted 22 year old that's not even producing in the AHL.
The Ottawa trade is fine I guess. Ceci isn't that good though. I think they'd rather just give the spot to a young defenseman like Walker that's already in the system rather than pay an overrated defenseman $4.3M.

Makes sense on his part, Just don't see David Poile dealing dealing Eeli Tolvanen for Jeff Carter though.

I generally agree with all of this, but:
You need to keep significative salary to trade Carter to PIT. And he needs to agree or else he said he would retire. I think he'd say yes.
Why such a low value for Brassard? He's worth at least a 2nd+ IMO

I think the Kings can do better than that for Carter, especially if they're expected to retain a significant amount of salary for 3 more years.
Value for Martinez and Hagelin is about right.
I think we might see Campbell traded before the deadline too. I don't think Quick is getting traded unless someone massively overpays.

Martinez probably gets closer to the same value that Muzzin got if he's moved soon. Martinez isn't as physical, but is much more reliable defensively and still produces some points. Plus Martinez has an extra year on his contract than Muzzin at the same cap hit. Try for more value there, not sure Montreal is the team to do it cause they've said they don't wanna give up futures right now. But a 1st+ top prospect and a mid prospect is certainly fair value
Not sure Pittsburgh cap situation allows them the handle Carter's contract long term. They're gonna need upgrades on their defence more than their centre core so the extra space might need to be added there instead

LA TDL moves
None of these trades make any sense.
Kings like Clifford and aren't going to trade him unless it's in a package to make the team better. A 4th round pick doesn't help.
Quick is a future 1st ballot Hall of Fame goaltender and Conn Smythe winner that will have a statue outside Staples Center and his number hanging in the rafters when he retires. The Kings aren't going to trade him for a 4th line center, a bottom pairing defenseman, and some mid-to-late round draft picks.
Why would the Kings trade Hagelin for a player that Edmonton would likely have to pay to get rid of? They'd be better off just giving Hagelin away. More realisitically, they'll trade him for a 3rd round pick to a contender looking to upgrade a depth winger position.
Dustin Brown isn't going anywhere.

Kings will trade you their 1st overall pick. It will cost you Sebastian Aho, Brett Pesce, and Carolina's 2019 1st round pick. Carolina also has to take back Phaneuf as a cap dump.
In other words, Kings won't trade you their 1st overall pick.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>thilk</b></div><div>this is not necessarily on you, but i keep seeing people trading clifford for smith pelly and its absolutely not happening and i dont understand why people A. think its a good trade B. the reasoning behind it. theres 2 problems with it:
1. Kings will never trade Clifford. Hes been on the big club since he was 19 and hes still only 27 right now. They drafted him because his attitude and motor are what they wanted to see out of every player on their team. you would be hard pressed to find a 4th liner that an NHL team values more than the Kings and Clifford.
2nd. If they were to trade clifford it would be for something that any GM would be fired for (ex. a top line winger for cliffy and a 4th rounder which would never happen). Clifford would never be traded for a bottom 6 winger ESPECIALLY when Clifford is better than Smith-Pelly. Hes better in just about every aspect of the game so why would you want to get worse? The Kings dont need to shed 600k that badly.
Again, its not necessarily your fault as many people on here saw whoever posted it first and used it too. Bottom line, he aint going anywhere anyone close to the Kings will tell you that</div></div>
I'm pretty sure I started it and I understand where you are coming from, however, my reasoning for Smith-Pelly is because he is a playoff player. His magic comes in the playoffs. You're going to get physicality and responsibility with him all season long just like Clifford. He's a grinder, I love his game. I love Clifford too, but maybe trading Clifford is what it's going to take to shake up and wake up the Kings and get our top players off their high horses and realize if they don't start performing they are going to get traded too.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hedman77</b></div><div>Alzner signed with Montreal because he wanted playoff success. I really doubt he waives for a basement team in LA</div></div>
He doesn't have to waive. He only gets to pick 7 teams that he won't accept a trade to. Is LA on that list? Maybe. However, there's a lot to be said for non-hockey related life in Southern California vs somewhere like Columbus or St. Louis.

He's been wanting to be in LA for years because of his actress wife. I'm sorry, but someone will have to "Nancy Karrigan" him to be rid of him.</div></div>
Phaneuf has never waived his NTC. Every time his team approached him for a trade, he declined to waive, as is his right. However, per the conditions of his clause, he has to submit a list of 12 teams he would accept a trade to. If Montreal is on that list, he has no option to decline.

MTL takes it for 1 Important Reason
Kotkanemi got checked REAL DIRTY by Del Zotto and Paquette with Alzner on Ice and NOTHING was done by Captain Useless . . .
Phaneuf would have knocked the head clean off both them and protected our Youth .
Alzners a good player but if he's playing bottom 6 (which is at best all he could ) then you're fighting or you're ****ing off as leaving that **** for Byron to deal with is exactly what we dont frigging want .
