Not bad at all. Bruins probably wanted more term while the player likely wanted more $. Seems like decent middle ground.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HabsForEver</b></div><div>I wouldn't even say Toronto's forwards are better than Montreal's forwards. Toronto is a 2 line team that can be exploited by a team like Montreal when they play. Shut down those top 2 lines and you will dominate.
Say Muzzin gets 7, that gives you Reilly and Muzzin. Liljegren and Sandin are both unproven. That defense doesn't get you to the cup.</div></div>
Lol that opening statement is pure gold.

What's a perfect team? A team with the best six defensemen in the league?
I sort of agree with this, there's definitely a chance that the AAV will be a bit high in the last two years or so, but then again, the cap will be higher.</div></div>
If you had said that about Dumba, I might've believed you. Not going to say anything with certainty though, as I don't watch many Wild games.

Sharks should have signed both Patty and Jumbo for 1M each. Fair deals imo and would've had both in the fold. I know they need to get younger, but they also need forwards. And as a Leafs fan, will be weird seeing him in anything other than blue or teal.

(TBL/DET) - Erne for 2020 4th RD pick
Erne is probably suited for either 3rd or 4th line role. IMO should've found a way to stay with Tampa (better for him) but team is shedding salary for the big guys. Plus they've given money for depth D signings and Shattinkirk... so guys like Erne have to be squeezed out.
Tampa knew they were most likely taking the L when trading a young grinder, regardless of the return. 4th rounder isn't the worst thing.

What annoys me so much about this signing is that it bolsters Tampa's D when they are already pretty set, and also signed Schenn for the 3rd pairing who is basically perfect for that role. Toronto needed Schenn or Shattenkirk a lot, lot more! UGH

Maybe Carrick is a perennial "8th man" depth guy, carving out a nice AHL career. But good luck to him on his NHL quest.</div></div>
Absolutely true. Maybe he has what it takes, maybe not. I thought he may be related to Connor Carrick but nope!

He's a near 50 point AHL defenseman. That's got to be good for at least the 3rd pairing in the NHL.

St. Louis Blues signed Joel Edmundson (1 Year / $3,100,000 AAV)
3.1M might seem like a lot but he got 3 even last year and this years signing walks him straight to UFA. I don't think STL were too high on him, just probably had the cap and wanted to bring the squad back for another go, but it appears they still might lose him next year. There's definitely a big discrepancy of value between team and player. Could be gone at trade deadline if season isn't panning out as planned.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AwesomeMatthews</b></div><div>WTF</div></div>
Could you imagine Leafs bringing Gardiner back on a similar looking 1 year deal?! That's my dream scenario. But Shatty is a RHD and a damn good one too. Also, why in the world would Jake take a huge pay cut and lose term during an important offseason for him? Now is his time to cash in. Guess Shatty already cashed in NY so he's willing to do this.

Arghh why??! The hockey gods are unfair I tell you. Rangers are literally paying Tampa to take a decent right handed defenseman with the potential of being a great player. They basically replaced Stralman with Shattenkirk. Gah it's such a good move and I really wanted Toronto to be the one making this signing... Good job Tampa.

I was only half serious when i said let him play in Europe, as you could maybe tell by my "lol" ... really, i would probably sign him anyway, but he's not worth 4M if you ask me. I'd much rather get him for less. 2.5-3M.</div></div>
But you're talking about an I wish scenario that every GM in the league would also wish. But reality and comparables probably demand that Deangelo is worth 4M per.

I think it's only because of the term. Most wanted more years at that AAV.

Low-key love this signing. After Ennis's departure I thought we'd have a hard time finding a replacement, but it seems we might just have. This guy can certainly score, but the jury is still out on how he handles the 4th line grind style game and can handle his own defensively.

(TOR/STL) - Borgman for Schmaltz
Also, I'm think this means Leafs are thinking Sandin makes opening right 3rd pair LHD (in Dermott's absence) and either Liljegren, Holl or Schmaltz as RHD. A Sandin - Liljegren pairing is intriguing for me!!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BeastModeUnknown</b></div><div>he has top 4 upside it's a far stretch but he can reach that under the right circumstances</div></div>
It's unlikely. He's a strong hitter and has decent D coverage, but a bit of a cinder block on skates with his strides. Can get caught out of position and doesn't offer a ton of upside on the offense category. I still think STL might be getting the better player, but that's also because I'm unfamiliar with Schmaltz's game. Borgy's younger so there's that, but Leafs need RHD so somewhere it makes sense for both teams. At 25 I hope Jordan can find his game as a no. 5/6 option. It's a battle between Holl and him now!
