Offseason with Eyssimont deal

Just because TB needs to move on him doesn't mean CHI has to help them out. They have about 16 picks in the first 3 rounds over the next 3 years. They don't need to mess with 5th and 7th round picks that are pretty worthless. If TB <strong>needs</strong> to move on from him, then they need to pay for that privilege.

That's a pretty light return for taking a $6.875 cap hit off their hands.

Kane has a history of successful playoff hockey; he may be too old now for that to matter, but that's a different drawback.

Blackhawks have no reason to do this. They are still in the market for acquiring draft picks, not trading them away . . . and they're pretty set in goal right now.

I'm not sure a 4th round pick is enough. Chicago needs to get to the cap floor but there are multiple avenues available.

The Blackhawks traded a 24 year old Debrincat last year, so they're not expending resources on a 27-year old Olofsson just to get to the cap floor.

offseason id like to see
I think he needs to retain money on Murphy and expand the deal to make sure a first or an actual prospect is coming back. Otherwise, I see no problem keeping him around -- need some veteran presence and consistency.
I also would NOT give Domi 5 years at $5M! They will have to give some bridge contracts before that's done, and they'll be looking to make some noise in free agency, maybe in 24, but definitely in 25, 26. Domi should get 2 years at $5M; If he does better than that on the open market, well, happy travels!

CHINSTRAPS
So the Blackhawks are bottoming out and focusing entirely on draft capital, but they're going to flip a 2nd for a 3rd? They just traded Domi and opted for a 2025 second to spread out the picks because they already have so many second rounders this year. And LHD is probably the spot in their system with the most strength. Just give up the NJD 3rd -- plenty for AA.

Just listening to 32 Thoughts, and they thought Buffalo could use some face-off help: would Sabres fans be interested in including Domi in a deal like this . . . his FO rate's been great this year.

You may have missed all the Kane-to-NYR coverage . . . looks like the return is not going to be great, so I actually wouldn't be wholly opposed to a first. However, if it's a 2025 first, there'd be something else needed.

what? It's in Kane's court. He's got a NMC. He's still not decided yet if he's willing to waive it, and word is he is going to name just one team. Kane is the one who botched it -- NYR didn't want to wait, but Kane and Brisson apparently do.

The Blackhawks like Lafferty and don't have to trade him. They would rather keep him than let him go just to make a move. It will cost a 2nd.

yep. hard no. They are asking a 1st for McCabe and more for retention. Davidson may relent and take a first (+ other asset) for McCabe and retention, but a 2025 2nd ?? No way -- if they have to wait that long, it better be a first. That prospect makes no sense, too . . . their top 3 defense prospects (in a D-heavy system) are all LHD. Maybe Lambert plus a 2025 2nd?

I don't understand the function of the salary retention on Kerfoot. The Blackhawks would see absolutely no benefit in getting less draft capital in exchange for a smaller salary. I think they'd prefer to opt for a 4th round pick instead of a 5th and take on all the salary.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div>You don't think it's the 8...ish AHLers on the team any given night? Kane's a playmaker, but when you have Kaner setting up Tyler Johnson where TJ's got zero defenders between him and the goalie...you've got to be able to make a shot. That's happened multiple times with Jason Dickinson too. His talents are just being wasted because the opposing team knows that no one else can do anything.</div></div>
it's not only that. He's had good games this year and bad . . . and if it was just a matter of bad teammates, we'd have seen this all year from him. But he's clearly been pretty awful lately--I'm not really seeing a guy out there who's making plays that teammates can't convert. Again: maybe it's the psychological effect of playing with a bad team all year, but it's not like he's the best player on the ice and nothing's happening for them offensively because of his teammates.

The Blackhawks would surely take that . . . they may get a second just for Lafferty, so it's still probably an overpay, especially if Kane doesn't approve more than 1 or 2 teams.

As a Blackhawks fan, I can tell you that that is a huge overpay at this point, unless Kane gets a return based on his reputation as a hall-of-famer . . . He's been cr*p lately; claims it's not this hip injury that has been plaguing him for a couple years. But if it's not, then has he suddenly aged? Is he cranky about not being traded to the Rangers? Is he so conflicted over being traded that he can't play?
Anyway, most CHI fans are dialing back their expectations. If they can pry away a first, that would be great, but I think it would come at the expense of including Lafferty in the deal. Maybe Kane & Lafferty for a 1st and Robertson? or a 1st and a 2nd? Maybe it's even another Kyle-Kyle picks swap?

Domi - TDL
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheRealisticGuy</b></div><div>Those kind of comments annoyed me a little bit
I added a good prospect BECAUSE the Hawks are retaining & taking Gurianov
The whole package is for rental Domi half retained + taking Gurianov
I even said it in the description, maybe I should have added the retention as well for people like you
Now ... I could understand CHI declining BECAUSE they would want a 2023 2nd round pick instead and maybe a little bit more if a team really overpays</div></div>
So the Athletic prospect rankings lists Stranges as the #11 prospect for Dallas. He's described as an odd skater who is kind of a perimiter player, which is exactly the opposite of what Davidson's been seeking. This is not a prospect that moves the needle much for me.
If Gurianov is a salary dump, $2.9M in cap space at the deadline may be worth a second round pick itself. And you're also asking for retention on Domi. That doesn't add up.
Maybe Domi for Gurianov and the 2023 second.

I think Davidson still wants draft picks, esp. in 2023. He needs to eat salary on Kane and Toews deals (assuming they happen) and would probably like to do the same on Domi, so if he eats salary on McCabe, it's going to tie his hands a little. And so he'd definitely start with a first in 23 for McCabe and do what he could to make it happen --- send back a 3rd or something.

In all fairness to Friedman, he did clarify that this was not what Chicago was asking but what other GMs told him what they thought it would take to get it done.
I think Davidson asks for a first, he accepts a 2023 second maybe before a 2024 first, and they may get creative and do something like Toews and 3rd (or a late 2nd--they have TB's) for a 2023 first.
