Canes Offer Sheet Impact
They have Morrow and Nikishin who could step into roles on the team next year, minimizing the need to resign some of their D. They need to extend Slavin and should hold on to Chatfield imo. They can keep Orlov until his contract runs out same with Burns. Idk if I'd extend either of them, just depends on available cap and what AAV they'd want

The package sent isnt horrible. It may not be a 2024 1st but you get a 2025 one, plus a good D prospect, a forward needing more opportunity, and a very solid F prospect who is going to be a valuable NHL player imo

Doubt Lindholm does a 1-year deal but you never know. I'd like to bring in a true grinder for the 4th line via FA or trade. Lots of options out there. Demelo would be very nice on the 2nd pair but I'd go aggressive on Roy or Pesce as I see them as better players overall. If we do a stop-gap backup I'd hope for someone better than Riitich.

I think your value on the trades is pretty spot on. I understand your reasoning that Vegas needs to clear cap space but personally I would be very surprised if Roy was moved by them. He's just on such a great contract. I'm a big fan of Samuelsson but I think if that deal for Marino is possible its something we'd really have to consider. It will be interesting to see how Adams uses our abundant forward prospects to improve the team. Kulich is really the only one I'd say is "untouchable" and I'd really like to see Savoie stay in the org too. We'll see!

Anaheim Ducks signed Cutter Gauthier (3 Years / $1,900,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>kckrebs</b></div><div>Everything in the NHL, from top to bottom, is for the fans. Without fan support there would be no money, no teams, no league. Not sure why you think we shouldn't care what happens with our favorite teams? It seems you care a whole lot about teams that aren't even your favorite, as you seem to comment on about everything lol.. But yeah, take another jab at Philly since I'm clearly the one that needs to not take this stuff so seriously.</div></div>
Reading through this interesting discussion has me wanting to comment just saying that I agree with your statements and I don't believe its a bad thing you are disappointed Cutter didn't sign in Philly. That's totally normal and perfectly legitimate to feel that way. I'm not a fan of players not signing with the teams that draft them. An organization takes a risk drafting a kid, spends tons of time, talent, and money to develop them and then they just leave the organization? Doesn't seem right to me. Obviously if the organization wronged one of their players then that's a different story. However that wasn't the case with Gauthier. I'm really just not big on the whole entitlement thing that appears to be with some of the college prospects. I get that they have a desired destination to play but seriously to spurn the team that drafts you is childish. Like Adam Fox refusing to sign with TWO teams because he would only play in NYC. Its just dumb to me. And who pays the price? The organization who believed in the kid initially and all the fans who were excited for that prospect and are passionate about their team. Sorry that's my rant for today.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hockeynutter</b></div><div>My lineup still has 2 million in bargaining. I will admit I have no idea for UPL. He has bargaining on his year but it is only one year and that gives bargaining to Buffalo. Limited experience helps Buffalo. Either way Buffalo with their cap space and looking to trade Henri for one more scoring forward can help them really do damage. As said in previous comment, if Robertson played regularly, his EV goal percentage would give him like 25 goals. This past year , Buffalo struggled offensively. They traded a good offensive center in mittledtad for Byram. (Good trade though I think) This gives so many options for this lineup to make a really strong team next year and still maneuver their salary cap.</div></div>
I see your points but keep in mind that the Sabres are LOADED with forward prospects that project to be high octane players. Savoie, Kulich, and Rosen are all gonna be NHL ready next season. Ostlund, Wahlberg, Marjala, Poltapov etc arent gonna be far behind either. Robertson is a nice middle 6 guy right now and may grow but in those 3 top prospects we have top 6 potential and therefore they have priority in the lineup over bringing in outside talent

Whats Buffalos plan
Good questions. Obviously we cant say for certain what the organization's plans are, but I'll take a brief stab at guessing. Plenty of talent is a good problem to have and one the Sabres have never had so Im not sure how they will approach it. You gotta keep Kulich and Savoie imo. Rosen would be nice to keep but he would need top 9 playing time. The other very talented forward prospects are moveable or simply take time developing them before they sniff the NHL. Krebs is fine to stay as a 4th line grinder and can move up when injuries happen. Here's how I would project Top 9 forward lines in 2-3 years without any trades:
Peterka-Thompson-Quinn
Benson-Cozens-Tuch
Savoie-Kulich-Rosen
4th line can be anyone, Id love to see Biro, Kozak, and Nadeau earn spots there. Ostlund is expendable imo in a trade to solidify our D core. However, if he stays in the SHL for 24-25 then plays 1-2 years in the AHL there could be a spot for him

Hayton would be a good option for a swap with Krebs. I don't think we'd have to add a 2nd, maybe a lesser pick. But if the idea is to get a 3C I'd be okay with letting Kulich and Savoie vie for that spot

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Stadel</b></div><div>The problem isn't his offense, it's that he doesn't do any of the stuff you listed, but he gets all the credit for the work of whatever pair he's on. Like for some reason, its impossible for Sabres fans (not saying you just generalizing a sample on say twitter) to attribute defensive work to Power, because he doesnt hit. Or Dahlin, because he turns the puck over a lot. But in game, he's consistently torched for speed by the opposing teams top players. And his skill with the puck is unfortunately abysmal. I don't even mean offensively, like the puck skills you'd want a defensive d-man to have (stretch pass, d to d etc.) . Dahlin's expected goals against per 60 both last year and this year were noticeably better with Jokiharju than Samuelsson. Which doesn't say much other than it's pretty clear that the top pair will go as far as Dahlin takes it, regardless of the perceived reputation his partner has.
There are probably little things he does well but not enough to make up for everything else and not enough to warrant his cap hit. Smart teams are able to add defense only players pretty regularly at bargain prices through free agency or trade. Dedicating a long term contract to one never made any sense and if they can find someone who would take him off their hands, and send someone/thing helpful back, that would be very ideal.</div></div>

I recall seeing you post many times that Kulich shouldn't be in the minors for another season, yet here he isn't on the NHL roster... What would be the plan with him? You think he's going to be pleased with the organization that keeps his scoring and talent out of the big league for yet another year?

Savoie would instantly be a top 6 forward in Edmonton next season and playing alonside either McDavid or Drai would put up 50+ points in his rookie season quite easily. Much higher ceiling than McLeod offensively. Akey is an okay prospect, he's not proven to be anything more than a B- at this point

The organization loves Samuelsson and rightfully so. Many Sabres fans on this site seem not to like him and try either trading him for scraps or having him play 3rd pairing instead of top 4. He's a legit shutdown D-man with size, physicality, and great skating ability. Invaluable to the Sabres team. He didn't play amazing this season but that doesn't mean he still isn't a key part of the future moving forward. Heck Dylan Cozens has had a down year but he's still key. Samuelsson isn't on the team for offense, I could care less if he only puts up 5 points in 82 games. He's there to block shots, shutdown the other teams' offensive dynamos, and be a great leader on and off the ice.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pocke</b></div><div>It's just the caliber of prospect he is. He was drafted 6OA, had an absolutely outstanding D+1 and has had flashes of an insane ceiling in the NHL in his D+2.
His defensive numbers on CBJ are good and his scoring output is similar to Power's with 0.92 points/60 against Power's 1.01 Points/60.
Here are some hand-tracked metrics that are important for defensemen. First, both are already excellent puck movers.
<img class="for_img" src="https://i.imgur.com/Fw591l7.png" alt="Fw591l7.png">
Second, Jiricek is a fantastic neutral zone defenseman whereas Power is more absorb focused.

Interesting charts and I see what point you are making. However I'll just point out something you already know. Jiricek has 40 career NHL games under his belt with an average TOI of 15:07. Power has 138 career games with an average TOI of 23:12. That's a significant difference in sample size and playing time. I'm not disagreeing that Jiricek is a very valuable prospect or that his ceiling isn't high. But to suggest that it would cost Cozens or Power is what I disagreed with.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>squashmaple</b></div><div>You cannot possibly be this dumb, but I guess your username does imply that numbers and charts scare you. SkyRaider claimed that Jiricek wasn’t worth anything and pocke very clearly demonstrated that that was incorrect because the numbers show he is comparable to Power despite Power being a lofty first overall and Jiricek being clearly much less than that (even though weirdly your whole fanbase on this website is desperate to acquire him). Power is just older and came into a team with no one ahead of him at his position since he and Dahlin can both play both sides.</div></div>

Makes no sense to trade for and sign Hanifin, trade for Jiricek and Borgen and also draft Levshunov. You'd have too many top 4 D men and not enough ice-time nor cap to pay them. We don't need or want Hanifin and Jiricek won't be moved. Borgen would be a great add but would cost more than Krebs and a 3rd imo
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>pocke</b></div><div>Make his mark by getting fired after one trade maybe?
Jiricek isn't getting moved. If he was, you're looking at Cozens, Power or Benson+</div></div>
