Lets exclude what we all think and use the pro opinion...last night Gretzky, Ace and Biz all priased Domi and the other night PK and Mess did...what did they say about Marner?

I agree with you the trade is rubbish but unless Marner somehow does somthing tomorrow night and beyond he has little value...Marchand is twice (to be kind) the player Marner is in every way at just over half the cap hit! Marner is way way overrated imho...on the flip side the guy could use a change of scenery to reinvent himself...like Hyman, Kadri, Marchment, Joashua, etc have

Better to just waive Marner or even better just for picks and use the 11M more wisely...Montour, Tanev and Talbot as an example...and next year when Tavares 11M is off the books go for Shesterkin or one of the good UFA goalies available

Playoff Line up
Keefe will take Jarnkrok with him when he goes down with the ship. Jarnkrok in 86playoff games has 5goals and 17assists. That's a goals every 17games and a point about every 4games. If he in the lineup he should be on the 4th line at best. I hope McMann can be back for game one he is a guy who goes to the net. Bert, Knies, McMann and Holmberg have to get to the front of the net to give the leafs any chance of beating Boston.

And the Sens aren’t trading Brady so that makes it even.
You’re not making 8 players untouchable to get Brady that’s insanity .
I said I don’t want Ostlund he doesn’t fit here and his ceiling isn’t high enough to replace Brady in the top 6. Him and Pinto play the same role and Pinto has more size and is more proven

Do the lines work
I like most of this, but I would switch McMann with Knies and Brodie with Benoit. Knies has played in the top 6 because it's clear he can keep up with stars' decision-making/pace. Plus, we saw last year against Tampa how well Tavares-Knies could cycle together. I also don't think that McMann relies upon his linemates to generate his offence, which is why I think his production would decrease as much as Knies by sending him to the 4th line. Brodie should be in and out of the lineup in R1 based on injuries/performance, but Benoit-McCabe has been a solid pairing the entire year and there is no reason to deviate from what has worked time and time again.

Hoglander in deal for Guentzel
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>python3504</b></div><div>van is not giving up enough, where is the value for dumping mikheyev for 2 more seasons at 4.75/year,</div></div>
Mikheyev is still a good player, just in a scoring slump, I don't think it would cost too much, if anything, to get someone to bite on him, he could just be waived and some bottom feeder would pick him up. As for value, it's pretty fair if you believe in Hog and Podz' potential, that being said, they're both NHL players and this hurts VAN's depth so I don't see them doing this. Take one out, add Raty and a 1st and I think both teams agree.

They don't do it because of the risks involved. If any word leaks out that a player has this kind of agreement, his value is completely tanked and no one is going to trade anything of value for him. Say Guentzel did something like this and word leaked, other GM's will know he's not signing with their team and would be a pure rental, so you're probably only gonna get like a 2nd or 3rd round pick for him maximum. Under the table contract agreements also run the risk of the league finding you guilty of tampering and punishing you for it with major fines, loss of draft picks, and potential voiding of the signing all together. It's a very risking play as one slip of the tongue can completely derail the plan and leave you 5 steps backwards instead of forwards.

(ANA/CAR/TOR) - Lyubushkin for Slepets for 2025 3rd (TOR), 2024 6th (TOR)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>python3504</b></div><div>So this is what i dont understand, why does everyone seem to hate the deal?
ANA acquires LBUSH 2.75 for a 4th round pick - everyone says good trade they will flip him for a higher pick at the deadline
Leafs acquire him for a 3rd 50 retained and shell out a 6th for another 25% so he comes to the leafs 675K below league min - everyone says its a bad deal but they needed a right shot D.
so ana got exactly what they thought they would and the leafs paid what everyone thought they would, yes he has bad numbers but so did Benoit but look at him on the leafs, he is performing way better.</div></div>
Then add on, they need to compete with Boston or Florida, they need to be physically superior bc that's how you beat these teams...

It’s not like they acquired Walker for a 1st+.
D depth is important. Plus they got an indefinite 5th rounder and double retention on a known commodity (he is a minimum salary depth defender, after all) for a 6th.
That is pretty solid GMing no matter how you slice it and if you think otherwise you are being captious.

For those saying the double retain means they will make another move, they don't have the cap space. On deadline day they will send down Robertson and afterthey will waive Jones and call Robertson back up. The only way they can make more space before the deadline while leaving enough space for Jarnkrok to come back is to waive/trade any of Gregor/Reaves/Giordano/Lagesson/Timmins before the deadline. It looks like they want to keep Reaves as he has been contributing more lately, then Lagesson and Timmins are too valuable as injury depth. That leaves Giordano, who could pull a Spezza and threaten to retire if claimed, and Gregor. It doesn't seem like they want to put Giordano through waivers even though he would clear, and I guess they want to keep Grogor around in case of injuries... so that's it, this is the roster. I personally would have gotten rid of Gregor so that you have more space for a better players than Lyubushkin but they didn't want to do that. Part of me thinks with Giordano going down tonight, and McCabe playing while banged up, they wanted to complete this trade before they announced any injuries and teams drove up the prices knowing they were in a bind... <img class="for_img" src="https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GHk-FvUW8AARlmZ?format=png&name=large" alt="GHk-FvUW8AARlmZ?format=png&name=large">

Only the Leafs could generate these kinds of reactions from a trade like this lmao. An overpaid rental defenseman traded with double retention for mid-round picks. It's a completely fair deal for all sides.
