Making moves your thoughts
Only for the Buffalo trade:
First, the Jets should not trade for Risto, he is a liability and Buffalo would ask for too much.
Second, even if the Jets did try and trade for him, that offer is a cap dump on our end with Buffalo retaining a significant portion of Risto's salaray. It would not fly and would be a no from the Sabres.
Faulk could probably come at a cheaper cost and is similar statistically speaking for production, with a better +/- average

I never said that your value was far off for an AAV. What I was saying was that for an offer sheet at the number you provided that is another joke and weak attempt to land a player like the Aho attempt. Offer sheets are meant to over pay star players to put pressure on the team's cap situation or for a team to acquire a great player who is getting over payed. The Jet's wouldn't stress for 7 million, in fact that would solve the stalemate.
Don't get me wrong I would love for him to sign for around or under 6 but that's not realistic at all. A realistic bridge deal for Laine is around 7.25 +/- 250k, depending on how far the Jets would stretch.
Now since we know that's what his contract is most likely going to look like, you cannot submit offer sheet for that number which is probably around or even less then what they are going to pay and assume they will not match.
Just like Aho, that would be around the AAV he would have received without an offer sheet being submitted. The only change the offer sheet made was his money up front and the fact that his contract walks him to free agency.
Not to mention the player would have to agree and sign the offer sheet.
Want to really ruffle the Jets' feathers? Throw 10+ million at Laine, which no team would probably do anyways.

Personally I do not think either team would do this trade. Haters will say the Jets add more but I think both teams are happy with their current players in that trade.
That's a low offer sheet for Laine that the Jets would match but does walk him right to free agency...if your goal was to create bad blood with the Jets, you have succeeded.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Howyoudrouinnn</b></div><div>They offered Laine $5M x 2 years. If a team throws him a $10M x 5 offer I'd say its easier said than done that they can create cap space.</div></div>
They actually did not offer that...there is no and was never any validity to that rumor...TSN already cleared the air on that this afternoon. But again we live in a Maple Leafs world so not like anyone would here anything about it with the Marner cloud looming over us. Habs fans of all people would agree with that.
It really isn't difficult, but like I said its not a move that is necessary at this point in time and if it does become the way to get the deals done, then that is something we may see.
Most notable RFA's likely have some idea as to where their deals will land however clearly none of them want to be the first to sign in case one gets something astronomical. We will have to wait and see but as for the Jets, they are positioned pretty well contrary to popular belief.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Howyoudrouinnn</b></div><div>If it was THAT easy why haven't they moved them and signed Laine?????????</div></div>
Because that would be foolish at this point in time.
Why would they get rid of players who can still play in the lineup if they don't need to? They are trying to work them into the cap space they have now which is obviously plan A, which in fact, will most likely work out for them.
Plan B would be to do what is necessary by making a roster move.
This isn't be a GM in the NHL video games this is the real world...

a Laine Trade
Why does everyone think the Jets would not match an offer sheet for Laine or Connor when they can use picks and prospects to go with a cap dump of larger contracts to make space? That could be accomplished with one or two trades (worst case) i.e Perreault or Kulikov whose contracts end in less than 2 seasons meaning it would not be that difficult if they needed to move them. They could easily defend offer sheets if they need as their current cap situation which is just north of 15 million would not be far off from the total of two high offer sheet values anyways.
Not like anyone is offer sheeting each player at over 12 million dollars anytime soon....

Honka
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>tsyls</b></div><div>Spacek isn't anything special. He's a 22 year old C prospect that is stuck behind a lot of players on the depth charts. I don't see him cracking the Jets roster this year or next. Honka on the other hand has looked solid and I think he could make a difference immediately. I see this trade as a big win for WPG.</div></div>
Well I am not saying I am opposed to that exact trade, just giving a more realistic scenario of what the return from the Jets may look like. As many know the Jets prefer to hold on to their prospects and for good reason as they are able to develop them and either use them in house or as trade bait.
I wouldn't call it a big win right off the hop as it will be years down the road when the true value of this trade would come into light, but I do think it is worth the gamble and that Dallas would probably find more value in a higher pick from us as opposed to a lower pick and a prospect. I agree Spacek is nothing special but C prospects, similarly to D propsects, are not often moved as easy.
Especially since there has been a verbal request for trade, the value may not have to include a prospect anymore. Always a tough situation for the management, the Jets understand that just as much as anyone.

I get that, however I don't think the Jets would part with a prospect currently in their system for the chance to gamble with another coming in. Nothing wrong with using a 3rd to over compensate for the trade within the division

I would like the gamble for Honka by the Jets.
I think a pick(s) can get the job done, but a 5th rounder is low and there will be interest from several teams around the leauge which will drive the price up and not to mention the Jets are also in the same division as Dallas, so the cost will most likely be at minimum a 3rd rounder or more if the Jets want to sway Dallas to trade him within their own division, knowing there is always a chance he could develop into a good D man they play more regularly throughout the season and possibly playoffs.

The only players of value that would even interest the Jets are Domi or Drouin, and there would still be more going the Jets' way. Knowing that they are likely untouchables, what else is there but quantity?

Sami Niku plays 2nd RD = Petry better than him
Ehlers and Laine are 2nd line wingers = Tatar is probably top 9 then
Tucker Poolman plays 3rd LD = Kulak as good as him likely
#1: Little is not our future 2nd line centre, Roslovic is going to be better than Danault, he has not been able to play up high because of depth.
#2: Niku has not even played a full season and I would still take him over an over overrated Petry, who would not play in our top two pairings. Niku ceiling is miles higher.
#3: Saying Ehlers and Laine are 2nd line wingers is madness, just because they played their, does not mean they are. Nothing against Tatar, I actually like him as a player
#4: Poolman has not been able to crack the D yet because of the depth we had.
Don't mistake lineup positioning & amount of games played for a players evaluation & worth. It just means that we have more depth than your team and players who are not able to play on our roster, certainly could on yours. Just because they play somewhere on your team, does not mean they would slot in their on ours.
There is simply no incentive other than the draft picks from that trade for us as we already have everything else currently within our system.
The only way the trade works is if you offer something of direct equal value (in quality, not quantity) or offer us something we do not already have, which Montreal cannot do at this time.

I’m not a fan of statistics in any sports cz every player has a way to play in a team that he can do it in another but there is still a way to consider them.</div></div>
I get the stats they put up, totally... but look at the Jets Top 6 forwards and D...where would anyone else we receive in this trade fit? We would be better off keeping Laine. and letting him build to 50 goals a year, on top of all the other weapons we have.
Not to mention that we have a solid bottom 6 core already in place and have room for our own young prospects to grow, who already show more promise.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BCAPP</b></div><div>I think this summer had a three tier market and an asterisk.
The four superstars: point, Aho, Rantanen, Marner
The stars who aren't quite superstars: Tkachuk, Boeser, Connor, and Meir
The good young forwards: Konecny, labanc, etc.
The asterisk: Laine. He is too unique. Until December 1st he was arguably generational. Then he hit a wall and stank for 2/3 of a season. I don't know how to value him
Note also tkachuk is close to the bottom of the top group</div></div>
I can agree with that.
To touch on the Laine subject, his uniqueness is what makes his situation interesting. I think he still can be seen as generational, I mean there is only one comparable to him in the league and that is Ovechkin. That being said I don't think its fair to simply strip that status away from Laine for going through some growing pains for one season where, in the end, he still put up 30 goals. He is third in the league for scoring since entering and provided he can start of right this year, will continue to build off of that, if not improve.
I think its fair to say that right about now he is in the middle between the 1st and 2nd tier, and it is going to take more than just next season to determine where he truly is in those conversations.
That's where a 3ish year bridge deal would fit nicely as it allows him time to improve on things he needs to and mature while also settling in to where he belongs in the leauge, which in my mind is still a generational goal scorer,
