I think you could offer $8 million and make it awefully tough for Winnipeg to match.

But since I am not a Laine fan, I would go after Connor. That $8 million lands him.long term I think. Same result, much more rounded player.

MTL needs goalscoring and PP help, Laine would help for both. Connor is better all around but I like Laine better.

I think going to $10M which isn't TOO much of an overpayment, while making it even harder for WPG to match.

Why does everyone think the Jets would not match an offer sheet for Laine or Connor when they can use picks and prospects to go with a cap dump of larger contracts to make space? That could be accomplished with one or two trades (worst case) i.e Perreault or Kulikov whose contracts end in less than 2 seasons meaning it would not be that difficult if they needed to move them. They could easily defend offer sheets if they need as their current cap situation which is just north of 15 million would not be far off from the total of two high offer sheet values anyways.

Not like anyone is offer sheeting each player at over 12 million dollars anytime soon....

Because that would be foolish at this point in time.

Why would they get rid of players who can still play in the lineup if they don't need to? They are trying to work them into the cap space they have now which is obviously plan A, which in fact, will most likely work out for them.

Plan B would be to do what is necessary by making a roster move.

This isn't be a GM in the NHL video games this is the real world...

They offered Laine $5M x 2 years. If a team throws him a $10M x 5 offer I'd say its easier said than done that they can create cap space.

They actually did not offer that...there is no and was never any validity to that rumor...TSN already cleared the air on that this afternoon. But again we live in a Maple Leafs world so not like anyone would here anything about it with the Marner cloud looming over us. Habs fans of all people would agree with that.

It really isn't difficult, but like I said its not a move that is necessary at this point in time and if it does become the way to get the deals done, then that is something we may see.

Most notable RFA's likely have some idea as to where their deals will land however clearly none of them want to be the first to sign in case one gets something astronomical. We will have to wait and see but as for the Jets, they are positioned pretty well contrary to popular belief.
